^^do an AR kit build with a 1/9 twist barrel and throw a CMMG .22 conversion in it. runs like a CHAMP with CCI Standard velocity rnds and is fun as hell!! and u can always shoot 5.56 when u want to. my 25yd 5.56 & .22LR zero and group size is about the same. which is very nice.

both my GSG's cost $500. sold the P for $350 when I needed some cash, kept the SD. the AR runs much better with the CMMG kit (flawless) and is my main plinker for blwoing through ammo for cheap.

+1 on a 10/22 ruger. im not a ruger fan at all, but that is the only ruger are family owns, they are extremely cheap and there is such a big aftermarket scene on them. just do yourself a favor whatever 22 kit/gun you end up buying buy coated rounds, not the soft lead ****, all you will do is jam and dirty the **** out of your gun. i know cause i leaded a dedicated 22 upper on my dads m16 when i was a kid, so bad that rounds were key holing.

HaveBlue83 12-07-2011 10:13 AM

yeah i agree. the waxy coated ones r good. if u do high rnd cound use the hi-velocity copper ones. i do mayve 100-200 a session & clean.

i gotta get some rifle picts up here of my "children".

I was looking at some of the Ruger 22's. I can find them relatively cheap and they would achieve my "plinking around" goal.

Not sure, I've heard yes and no. I'll just call Kimber to find out I guess.

Yes pre-lawsuit GSG's do hold their value. I sold mine for $450 with all the accessories to a buddy of mine. I also told him if he ever decides to sell it I have first dibs.

You can get a 10/22 from Buds for about $200 shipped. I got mine used at a local shop for $150 with the synthetic body/folding stock & scope already on it. Throw in some money for mags and you're golden pony boy.

Building an AR is also a pretty good idea but will be a lot more expensive off the bat. I would also recommend getting a dedicated .22lr upper for it. I know a few people that just swap parts over but that can be a pain in the ass sometimes. Also mags are picky with the .22lr in some guns.

I figured.. I think what I'm going to do is put together about $1,200 to start and see how far that gets me.

if you do decide to go with a dedicated 22 upper/22 conversion i would only stick to black dog magazines. they seem to work the best and worked great in my dads m16

HaveBlue83 12-08-2011 02:21 PM

black dog or CMMG mags are GTG

I'm coming home on the 19th and will be in town until Christmas day then will be leaving for Vermont on the 26th, so I was thinking maybe we could organize a shoot in between those days.

A large group would obviously be fun, so hopefully the regular members of this thread could come plus some of the other gun people on the site.

Ideas for a location?

HaveBlue83 12-08-2011 11:01 PM

oooh, a group shoot :). as long as I have ammo I could prolly go for that.

Bi-Tone Springfield Armory Lightweight Loaded Champion 1911 4''

Its got pachmayer grips on it that i will be replacing and ill be putting an ambi safety on, after i have the slide and frame sent back to SA for a refinish :) (I just have OCD) Ill polish the barrel when they are being sent out!

Thing is awesome but the one mag does not feed HST i think im going to stick with Critical defense for the 1911 as ive used in all my glocks....

Ill get some pics up soon, but crazy busy with finals

edit: quick cell phone picture

Ha if Munky does decide to get rid of all his guns, i bet thats one that would be held onto haha

Ya im seeing that 1911 factory mags are crap, like i said only the one feeds hydra shocks reliably and the other hangs up every round...

Ive also read that you shouldnt use open cavity defense rounds in 1911's since they have been engineered for FMJ...

Thats why im going to switch to critical defense from hornady that i carry in all my glocks...

I should have the slide and frame back sometime after x-mass if i can have it sent out sometime within the next couple weeks...

Good call on the CD. That stuff feeds very well through my 1911

99corvette 12-11-2011 01:49 PM

Well should have a spikes tactical 10.5 upper in tomorrow to complete my sbr ar15. Waiting on a custom built mp5 pistol that I'm hoping comes in this week and still waiting on my trident 9 suppressor which I'm hoping comes in this week or next, damn c3 transfer taking forever.

great pick up steve (i think I helped persuade you haha) You will love it, but (and I am sure you know this) dont carry her until you find the kind of ammo she likes to eat and you get the hang of the safety down

Lol, yes you did Dave...I definitely love the feel and everything else about the 1911..

Im not a fan of the capacity, but i think the 1911 will by my winter carry and my G26 or when I get another G19 will be summer carry..

Im going to pick up a box of CD to try at the range this weekend...It seems the one magazine feeds them fine, but maybe some polishing in there will smooth things out..

And ya ya ya ill get the safety down

So Just got off the phone with Springfield Armory and was surprised to be greeted quickly by an actual person, ha.

I will be sending the gun off to Springfield next Monday after the ambi safety is installed for a complete refinish and replace any worn parts, which may include night sights, which they still glow good so i doubt those will be changed at all, recoil spring still feels fine too

Turn around time quoted at 3 weeks during holiday time

Hopefully now after all this refinishing and stuff, I will shoot faster?

Here is cellphone pic on my crappy droid camera :(
