Or, go to your local shop and try some out, a lot of places rent, or even just go hold then and see what feels right to you, to me and many others the glocks feel PERFECT, this actually one of the biggest arguments in the gun community haha. |

IIRC, when Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper wrote those rules he specifically wrote them in the order of importance, hence the numbering. |

Thanks for all the help and advice. I am planning on just going to the range and shooting at targets. I'm a little bit hesitant about getting a permit to carry in case someone jumps me or what not lol.
But my main purpose for a gun is for safety. I'm planning on putting a down payment on a house in november 2011 and I'd like to have a gun by then just to keep in my house for protection. I won't be living in a bad/dangerous area or anything, but I'll be living by myself. A little extra protection wouldn't hurt. I just wanted something simple to use, fairly small/lightweight. Fun enough for the range. I have been to target world near chalfont, but I don't know of any other places. |

don't listen to this man, a Springfield XD is what you want. :-p
Actually, for home defense you should at least consider a shot gun, or even an AR-platform rifle, depending on how much money you have to spend. For what it's worth, out of about 10 or 12 different guns she looked at, my wife picked out a Smith & Wesson M&P (handgun) in 9mm that she keeps at home. No matter what you get, as long as you train regularly with it, you'll already be at an enormous advantage compared to the rest of the population in the event of a break-in. Practice really is the key. There are way too many people who go out and buy a gun and a box of ammo, and then put it up on a shelf in a closet or something and let it collect dust. A firearm is a tool that can be deadly if mishandled, just like a car. Of course you wouldn't drive a car without first learning how it works and how to drive it. Same thing applies to firearms. I can't stress how important the practice part of gun ownership is. You don't want to wait until someone is actually trying to break into your house to learn how to load/unload and fire the gun accurately. It might be awkward for you so maybe you could bring a friend or something, but you've got an awesome opportunity to learn and shoot a LOT of different guns at our group shoot if that's something you'd be interested in. |
Sure it has been discussed but the Valley Forge Gun Show is this Fri, Sat, Sun :-D

I'm planning on submitting my application for a LTCF in Philadelphia county. I've been reading on PFOA that its nearly impossible to get a license in philly. Does anyone have any experience, or words of advice?

Just make sure all your parking tickets are paid. :bigeek: It's not as bad as some people make it out to be. Worst case scenario you simply get your FL license using the so called "loop hole" and carry on that. |
Philly is nothing different regarding the application process except some stupid "rules" they illegally have instilled upon LTCF applicants. IIRC it's something to do with the whole lost or stolen deal, as well as some other BS. Philly LEO's also seem to HATE Open Carry, though it's 100% legal (in Philly County) with a LTCF and in every other county without a LTCF.
I am not a lawyer. And yes.. PAFOA rocks :) |

I do have one outstanding ticket. How long after I pay it should I wait to submit my app? |

IIRC in philly you get interviewed as well |

philadelphia sickens me. on the top of the list or piece-of-trash individuals that reside in that cesspool are the worthless scum that some call the philadelphia police department. tonight's random PPD hating tangent is brought to you in part by: recent philadelphia police brutality. a little ways in, note the man's blood on the officer's shirt... as he continues his beating. no matter what that guy did, he was subdued and NOT resisting. that street thug/gangster dressed early for haloween as a police officer deserves to rot in jail for that brutal beating, as well as waiving his gun around like some kind of movie gangster. however, instead of being thrown in jail or at least getting fired and brought up on charges, he'll probably be honored at some fancy dinner for 'putting his life on the line to protect the lowly citizens from a dangerous criminal.' honestly that video makes me want to freak the f*** out. i'm sitting here with my blood boiling trying to figure out why there's no one in the streets of philly fighting back against those jack-booted thugs. fact: the actions shown in that video are the reason that police are murdered in philly. |

almost more disturbing than the asshole doing the majority of the beating is the fact that there are many other cops around who are doing nothing to stop it. a few were trying to get close enough to do their jobs and arrest the man, but couldn't get near him because of the swinging baton. didn't mr. churchill say something about good men doing nothing? every one of those other officers could have stepped in and stopped the beating, but they chose to watch instead. it's sick. |
