Alright...maybe this Sunday I'll take a closer look to what the problem is. You think the screwdriver method should work?

russiankid 03-04-2009 08:00 PM

It should. If you cannot pin point it, I would check the waterpump. Just be careful, the tensioner and idler pulley are pretty close to the water pump pulley.

I've never tried that screwdriver trick on a rotating part like a pulley.

russiankid 03-04-2009 08:11 PM

You don't put it on a pulley. The idler pulley has a base, so put the tip on there. The tensioner is a bit tricky so inspect it with the engine off for best way to place the screw driver. The mechanical tensioner is very easy, just take a look at it and you will see a round thing behind the pulley. A hydraulic is a bit different. Water pump just place the tip on the pump. Do the same for the alternator, but try not to touch any metal parts of the screw drover car with your bare hands for safety.

Now that I am thinking about it, I would first check your power steering pump. You may be low on fluid.

I'll check that tonight. I was told it had a PS leak when I bought it...but the whine was different from the whine in my S13 when the the fluid's low.

These pumps take ATF so it will be different, unless you have a different system. Before you add fluid check what kind of fluid is in there.

My knuckles hurt so bad. I just took out the radiator in the BMW. I think I found the issue to the leak, fixed it, crossing fingers. But damn do condensers hurt. Bleh.
