When you learn how to shift faster then an automatic can, I'll listen.

I learned how to drive manual in an ex's pick-up truck and Jack's Evo..but that doesn't mean you could throw me in a manual car and tell me to drive.. Haha.

can't really give you a link to the listing. but just go to carvision.com, then inventory on the button left of the piece of **** splash in the center of the page, then click to the second page of the listing and it will be in there

So then you don't know how...but you know what you're supposed to do...right?

Once you learn how its very simple in any car. I drove my uncles Audi for the first time and it took me two take offs to drive it smooth.

something tells me... she knows how to handle a stick... or three

ASIAN JUL 01-27-2009 03:18 PM

No, I know the basics. I drove the truck a few times, but not out on the road. But I'm one of those people that would get nervous/think too much.

I just can't stand people who think high and mighty of manuals. Sure, they are a completely different experience but to say they are just for straights and grandparents, that is just ignorant.

They are better on back roads. I hate my auto on back roads.

i'll agree. i like a manual because i can choose my gear when entering or exiting a turn... though, you don't want to unbalance the car, and that happens when shifting mid turn.

with a road course, you don't need to shift as fast as you would on a drag strip... so the auto really isn't going to be a huge boon... but a paddle shifter would be a better asset to have than a traditional manual.

benefit of speed and precision AND being able to choose your gear w/o needing to slow down to get the car to shift itself

russiankid 01-27-2009 03:26 PM

One downside of an auto is the fact that the torque converter will not be locked all the time, therefore it slows down differently compared to a manual. Even if you use the manual feature and lock it in gear, it will still drop the rpms unlike a manual; then again it also depends on the speed.

TROLL 01-27-2009 03:27 PM

Mission accomplished with the whole fueling the fire thing then, I guess.

Scapegoat 01-27-2009 03:29 PM

i'll just always prefer a manual over an auto strictly for being able to feel the car better. so to me, none of the technical differences really matter to me. an automatic is a disconnect from the car and from the road itself.

ASIAN JUL 01-27-2009 03:30 PM

There's benefits and pitfalls to each - yes?

I'm being a peacekeeper

Yeah but you'd never shift mid turn, thats bad juju. You downshift as you're slowing down in a straight line, and select the gear you'll need to accellerate out of the turn. When you get back on the gas, the power is there, its linear, and you're ready to pull out smoothly and quickly.
If you did this in an auto chances are you would step on the gas, it would downshift, then transfer an abrupt and unsettling amt. of power to the ground... making you less stable, slower, etc.

I own both. I prefer manual. Its an opinion. If I had to summarize I would call manual active driving and automatic passive driving, but I'm sure that will be received poorly as well.
I think there's a lot of real world basis to support the performance benefits of a manual, but I was obviously not serious with my initial statement. I hesitate to generalize anything because there are always two sides and benefits to either.
And I guess I should apologize for tricking you guys into talking about cars here... woops.

Only time I feel that is when I am on back roads. If I lock it in 3rd gear, it feels completely different, or even in 2nd gear. That way, the RPM's are up high and it doesn't drop the RPM's when I let off and it picks back up pretty quick. Otherwise its just bleh.

Downside on an auto is heat. Heat will kill it faster than a manual. Thats why if you're going to do anything you better run a decent size cooler; and not the one that runs through the radiator either.

I am in a happy good mood today...and yesterday....and the day before.....
