I might have to look into one of those. I filed for the FL non-res CCW. So anytime I go into PA or one of the legal states I want something comfortable for the G26. I wonder about VA's open carry law and non-resident permits.

Maybe Ill hold off on going til alittle later then.

Thanks to my local range's ammo shipment not coming in they got the ok to sell these at cheap prices..

I had plenty of range ammo but I grabbed some boxes of it for home since it available.

I was over my buddy's house and final got a pic of his gun. He brought it out so we could cycle through the new APTIC rounds that he bought. We should be going to the range this week to blow **** up with it:mrgreen:

Wow, some of you guys are ready for war.

I've been looking to purchase a gun for home protection so I went into a gun shop the other week and told the guy behind the counter what I was in the market for. Originally a friend of mine, who has been into guns he whole life, told me to get a handgun but the guy behind the counter suggested a mosberg 20 gauge shot gun instead for home protection. It was pretty cheap @ only $300.00 and he said that the accuracy with a hand gun is like around 19%, and that was for people who shoot weekly. With a shot gun you won't miss, just point and shoot, not to mention the sound it will make when loading a round is more then enough to scare off a would be thief w/o even having to use it.

I don't plan on carrying anything, my biggest fear about that is if I have a gun I will use it in the wrong situation and wind up in jail. I only want it for home protection. There are no kids in my house but I would like my GF to be able to use whatever I buy and she is a little woman so it can't be something BIG that she can't handle or will knock her on her ass. What advise would you give to someone in my position?

The only problem with a shotgun is its long for close quarters. I dont think you ever have to worry about a drawn out gun battle running around the house tho. A pistol is way better for someone trained and can hit what they they intend to hit. I would just get a beowolf 50.

cmr076 09-25-2007 11:20 AM

^^ get a mossberg 500, you can put a pistol grip on it and it cuts the size down considerably. i had one and loved it, there cheap as hell too.

i was at targetmaster yesterday shooting the glock 19 and .45, my buddy was shooting and i was watching the guy in the lane next to ours. he was using a rented gun and couldnt figure out how to get it to fire. WITH THE GUN LOADED he turns it sideways, finger on trigger, and starts ****ing with it. the gun went off hitting the wall after passing 8 lanes. lucky for this guy the range officer wasnt in the booth. ****ing retard.

Nah thats not him. He doesnt doesnt have time to do the online forums. If we're not working he is either playing with his guns or his mustang. he has a fairly extensive assault rifle collection

ive never shot a 20 gauge, i mean the 500 is a 12 gauge, it has a good amount of kick and im not sure if your girl could handle it but as far as stopping power goes its on point.

if you really want neighborhood protection.....

Odd, because this guy has a mustang and the same gun, as well as went shooting this past weekend.

Hopefully I can make (no, I WILL make it) the next group shoot to pay for ammo and try it once or twice!

cmr076 09-25-2007 06:02 PM

has anyone fired/own a beretta elite II?? im looking to get one and want some input before i purchase.

ITSTOCK 09-25-2007 06:59 PM

I haven't shot them, only held them and contemplated.

Big gun, big price tag, still an overpriced Beretta. I'm sure it's accurate, and do to the size, very controllable. But, it's going to have a problem every now and then. There are just so many BETTER guns on the market for that price, but if I recall, you were in the Air Force, and are probably used to Beretta's.

cmr076 09-25-2007 07:07 PM

nope no military background for me. do you have a sugestion as to what handgun to get? i want something bigger, and with more stopping power than a 9mm. but not as big as a .45 im thinking a .40 is perfect. i had a taurus millenium .40 and hated it. although i liked the way it looked. id also like a gun with a rail interface. and as dumb as it sounds something in aluminum finish. im open to any ideas and would like to keep it around 800 dollars but preferably less...

When you say aluminum finish, do you mean a stainless slide, or do you mean that you don't want a plastic/polymer gun (want aluminum, I'll assume this is what you're talking about!)?

Best gun under $800 with a stainless slide, rail, and alloy frame might just be the Sig 226. It's right at $800 though, I think the cheapest I have seen them new is about $750.

cmr076 09-25-2007 08:26 PM

i have shot a few sigs and i think there possibly the nicest feeling handguns, not a bad idea. and yea i meant stainless slide.

i shoot weekly and i cant help but hit within 6inches of the bullseye just about every time, as far as really close "combat" a shotgun will be better except for the lack of maneuverability, but when you start talking distance shotguns are useless. id say get a 9mm you can get aglock 19 relatively cheap, there easy to use and are accurate up to like 20some yards.

i've got an old walther p38 with nazi insignia and ss insignia, only shot it once, but it was pretty cool. Also have some german sniper rifle, not sure make but has same markings.

Get the full size USP .40 OR SIG and be done with it. I haven't shot the full size USP, just the compacts (in 9, .40, and .45). The Sig is an awesome gun though :inlove:

that 19% figure I got was from the owner of the gun shop I went to who said alot of his friends are cops. He wasn't talking about overall accuracy when target shooting, he was talking about acutally using a hand gun in a fire fight, its only 19% accurate. I wasn't going to argue with the guy as he obviously new more about guns then me and I don't think he had any reason to lie to me since he wasn't trying to sell me on an expensive gun. He made a very good point about using a shotgun for home protection instead of a handgun though. He actually wanted me to NOT buy a gun right away and to shop around.

The active duty cops (not retired, not in the academy) that I have shot with aren't the best shooters in the world either though  .

So back to your question, generally speaking, a shot gun is great for home defense, little to no OVER penetration, and as stated, it will most likely hit the guy in one way or another.

With that said, for most houses, a full length shotgun (with a stock and the min. required by law 18" barrel) is too big to maneuver. It's a sit and pray guy in most circumstances, you sit behind a door, if he breaks through that last door, you shoot. That's not a bad thing at all, but if you have to go around the house, grab the kids, grab the family members, etc., it's challenging to run around with a gun that size and comfortably be able to take aim on the run. With a handgun, you can perform all duties 100%, and just like everyone SHOULD be, when you are well enough trained, you will hit the intruder. Also, most shotguns are 4 round capacity stock, 3+1 in the chamber.

You can get something like a mossberg 500 with folding stock and 7+1 (or 8+1, don't remember), and it becomes a great home defense gun, so long as that is what you are comfortably shooting. My girlfriend, at 110#'s (while weight is no excuse), just doesn't have the confidence while shooting the 12 gauge. I wouldn't want her protecting herself with that gun (would rather any of my handguns, or gasp....the assault rifle, she's got better aim than I do with the Stag 16" ).

drew 09-26-2007 07:23 PM

whoa that is freaking sweet, what does one of those go for?

i'm thinking about getting a hand gun, it would be my first and i plan on going to the range a lot and learning to shoot. what would you guys reccommend? i've been looking at the SA XD and everyone is telling me it would be a great choice, i don't really like the smallest one ( the little sub compact ) it just feels weird in my hands. any thoughts?

They are up to about $1850 with the iron sights, plus the ACOG is about $1000, and the other doodads are a couple hundred more (grip=$30, HK mag=$40, quick release/throw lever for laser or flashlight, whatever I want=$80, cheap laser, not sure, pretty cheap though, it's a cool toy, nothing more). With taxes and what not included, it would be a bit over $3000 to duplicate.

My thoughts of the XD is...well don't ask me. If you can, try the comparable model Glock and you don't have to deal with that stupid safety :-p .

drew 09-26-2007 07:34 PM

what would be a comparable glock? i don't really know anything about guns, my gaurdian was a police officer and had a few but the only one i ever got to hold was a berreta.

speaking of which, he was a very responsible parent, i was 11-13ish and he gave me his berreta with a clip of holo-points and let me play with it while he was bbq'ing
