there is no way for me to connect my work laptop that is an xp machine to my vista desktop... i've got 50 gigs i need to transfer... but due to the laptop being a work laptop, i'm limited as to what i can do...

i guess i need to purchase myself an external HD.. a 1tb is well under $200... just a pain in the ass...

a simple network connection won't do?

neither computer recognizes the other.

i've tried connecting directly with the ethernet ports. Vista recognizes there is something there... just not what.

there is an update for xp to allow vista to recognize it, and is required to network the two. however, i try to install on my laptop and microsoft's site says i don't need to... so it doesn't run the update. and i'm not forcing anything on the work laptop.

i was already in helpdesk yesterday b/c i tried to put my laptop on a workgroup at home and it ended up causing me to not be able to log into the comp at all :lol:

so yeah... a simple network connection won't work

usb memory stick it, probably get a 32 gig for 50 bucks. if you dont want it when youre done return it.

hmmm, that's odd. I've networked xp-vista many times.

Did you try running the network wizard on the xp machine, then creating a network disk and running it on the vista machine? That usually solves the problem of the two not recognizing each other.

i think it has more to do with the security software on the laptop. i'm not risking changing settings again and locking myself out of it all weekend... helpdesk would kill me on monday ;)
