I only had my camera out for a few minutes. I completely failed the 'are your batteries charged' test with not one, but two cameras. My DSLR died after like 5 pics. I was also planning on mounting my GoPro like 20 ft away from the exploding targets but nooooo of course, dead batteries :o Next time I'll get some good pics and HD video.

They sure aren't 'action' pics, but these are 3 of 5 that I took before the battery crapped out.

i spoke to the glock rep on saturday about the Gen3 Glock 34. He told me there are plenty available as Glock is not yet producing a Gen3 34. The sale price on it this weekend was high $500's, sorry i dont remember the exact amount. The price was contigent on ordering it Saturday.

But the good news was that if you want one, a gun store should be able to get one for you from the distributor they use. It may just come down to wating for delivery which should only be a few days.

Cool thanks for the heads up. Yeah I already ordered a XD-9 Tactical to hold me over until a G34 comes in for me. He said it could be soon or a month or two. Either way I'll have a new gun Wednesday and another on the way.:bigeek: I think I have issues and that I'll never see my 240 again.:rotfl:

So I have a question...Could someone describe what they would do if they were CC on the street and someone approached them with a knife and or a gun? I just want to know what your reactions would be if someone pulled a knife or gun on you and you yourself were carrying.

A lot of variables come into play within those scenarios, Its best to educate yourself as much as you can about the laws, training with the weapon, setting, location, how you were approached (front/behind/ambushed), etc, etc, etc

a questions like this i dont think anyone will or can give you a straight answer too, i know i cant

Exactly. There is no definitive answer. You do your best to educate and train yourself, then apply what you know to the situation at hand. Every situation is infinitely different so your reaction to each specific situation will be different as well. Above all, you must stay alive and keep your loved ones alive. If, in order to stay alive, I am forced to draw and shoot someone, then I will do it without hesitation. However, if I am certain that staying alive is as simple as running away, then that's what I'll do.

So if you have a LTC and you get in an altercation somewhere not in your house, and you end up shooting and injuring or killing someone...whats the law here? Is it automatic jail time?

There's nothing black/white about 'use of deadly force' situations. You learn the laws and use your best judgment. There are tons of resources out there to help you learn the laws regarding use of deadly force in PA, you just have to do the research. A very good place to start would be taking a class that's conducted by a lawyer, which happens almost monthly through PAFOA.

Not necessarily, and especially not after HB40 (stand your ground or castle doctrine law) is signed into law.

Even with current laws, if it's an obvious, cut and dry defensive shooting many times prosecutors will decline to press charges at all.

BTW, anyone here who lives in PA and thinks it would be stupid to prosecute someone for lawfully defending themselves should be busy writing letters and emails to their local representatives to get this passed into law. The law also prevents the injured (or deceased) or their family from suing their intended victim.

and just FYI, our previous governor (Ed Rendell) actually vetoed this law after it had been passed by both the house and senate with overwhelming approval at the end of his term last year. He apparently believes not only do you not have the right to defend yourself in public, but that if you are attacked and injure your attacker in the process of defending yourself that your ATTACKER should be able to sue YOU for damages.

New tack driver. Springfield Armory XD-9 Tactical I don't know why the blue background looks all pixelated. I guess when Flickr compressed them that's what happened.

 I had to spend some time with it at the range as soon as I picked it up. :rotfl: Which meant coming home and cleaning it up before snapping pics. I think they look like crap tho because Flickr compressed the hell out of them.

So here's a different idea...

How many of you would be up for a photo session involving your firearms and gear?

I've been trying to experiment with and get better at different kinds of photography and I have a few ideas involving off camera flash, etc. and not just point and shoot style. It would definitely not be a waste of anyone's time.

Ideally we would get permission from an outdoor range to set up for a while and take our time with some live-fire photos (safely and with respect to other shooters of course), and also set up an area to take some good pics of the guns/gear still-life style. I know the range thing might be an issue though, since we're not all members of the same range and since a lot of places would probably balk at the idea.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Id totally be down, for the same reasons haha, but thinking something like this would be probably better suited on someones private property?

I'm definitely down for this. The range thing might be a problem though.. we could either go to somebody's private property, or you guys could drive out to State College. I shoot at Scotia range, its an outdoor place with little to no supervision, so we shouldn't have a problem breaking out the camera equipment.

SvicksTc 04-13-2011 11:37 PM

So today in class i glanced over at this kids computer and gun broker was up, and immediately sparked a conversation, come to find out he has a pretty nice collection from kimber, HK, Scar, etc, and is currently a marine reserve..

He was telling me that you can shoot on state game lands out of season? I was thinking in my head like nahhhh no way...

but if there is some truth to that my rents have a cabin in jim thorpe area and our property backs up to sate game lands, there is also a 1,000 yd range up there and could probably get away with cameras up there

I'm thinking the same thing, but as far as I know no one here has land to use except for Andy's friend with the farm. I think arranging a trip there mainly for a photo day would be hard to arrange and follow through with. As for the SGL shooting, I have no idea. Maybe a question or search for PAFOA?

I just have this vision in my head of an AR/AK/sick-as-hell-full-auto-something-or-other laying on a bed of spent casings while the barrel and action are still smoking from burning off an entire mag, and "rain" (water bottle?) is beading off of the gun and evaporating off the hot hand guard, etc. Back light the whole pic with a low powered flash, just enough to freeze the rising smoke and I think it would be a winner. I'm thinking a simulated 'hard use' photo would be pretty sick looking.

However, I do not posses said "AR/AK/sick-as-hell-full-auto-something-or-other", or a facility in which to pull off such a thing. :( I think I can make it happen, I just need some help with the logistics of it all. lol

Sounds like a killer idea to me, well have to look into this more...

rodder 04-14-2011 11:26 AM

What's wrong with the farm? I'll tell Bob not to invite "the locals" this time.

I'd be in for sure. I like the wet smoking gun in the pile of brass idea. I think my AR might look nice in a shot like that actually.

What I really think would be cool would be to get some night shots of the fireball that nagant makes as well as some tracers and various muzzle blasts.

well then the farm it is! lol. Night shots are an awesome idea... long exposure with flash halfway through plus the muzzle blast... it will be perfect. It's going to be a few weeks before I get my new strobes and triggers, but as soon as I get them I'll be excited to get out and get some shots ASAP.

lol what? I'm the one who needs the practice... I don't have anything yet!

I've never owned any half decent off camera lighting setup, and I've never done more than use cheapo optical slaves. :o

As soon as I get some money straightened out I'll be placing my order for 2 LumoPro LP160 flashes, Cactus V5 transceivers, stands with umbrellas, etc., and maybe one or two cheaper Vivitar 285s. I just want to put together a real solid starter kit that I can learn with. I can't wait to start playing with them!

Anyway, yes you can mess with it all you want whenever we get together to do this shoot within a shoot lol

SvicksTc 04-14-2011 03:37 PM

haha, so we are in the same boat except i have no experience with off camera flash, im thining of the Sb-400 for now and then gather some stuff down the road, because ive been itching to get a new gun and having trouble saving for the 1911 i want haha
