first off i just want to say that this whole car has been a learning process for me and i have done everything by myself, but i am still a novince...
I took off my vlave cover today because i noticed it was leaking a little from it, so i was going to replace the gasket today, when i took off the vlave cover i was amazed to see how much gunk there was, it is everywhere and so thick! so i dont really know what to do at this point?? the only thing im going to do today is clean the valve cover, paint, and replace gasket... any advice on what to do?
also on another note i use royal purple or valvoline every 3000 miles to change my oil.

Looks like you had a very negligent previous owner. Possibly some blow-by also.
I believe RP suggests that you only use RP, It's a heavy detergent oil so it will begin to break up and dislodge all of that. Problem is if it all comes out too fast you can clog the sump.
If I were you I would just go in with gloved hands and take out the larger bits of that. clean it up as best as you can. Then add a bit of clean oil. Do it in a very clean environment you don't want to get any foreign bits in there.
I've heard of some people mixing a bit of trans fluid with their oil and running it for a few hundred miles, then changing it to flush it out. I've never done this myself. Getting an engine flush will help too but again it could send some large chunks of that stuff into places you don't wanna be. Seafoam is supposed to help clean up through the oil too. I've only ever used it in my gas and vac lines.

Seafoam will do the trick. put about 1/4 of the can into your oil and ride around for about 100 miles and then get your oil changed.
PLEASE PLEASE ONLY RIDE AROUND WITH IN IN YOUR OIL FOR 100 miles or less. cause it will cause the oil to be very thick and cause you more problems then you realize. i used it one time and it worked pretty well in fact i am going to do it again very soon right before i change my oil again so i can get more **** out.

That is horrible looking, keep us posted if the seafoam does the trick. Almost like an engine enama?

WOW. I've only seen one other car like that. The girl didn't change her oil for like 30,000 miles. It was a mess. I had to do like 5 engine flushes, pull the oil pan and clean all that **** out. It was bad.
Someone did not take care of that engine before you.

leave it alone, unless you want to replace rod bearings. change the oil more frequently.

seafoam in the oil wont give you the smoke you see as if you put it in through a vac line. same thing with the gas.

You can also do a kerosene engine flush. I don't quite remember how it's done since I've never done it, but my friends tell me about it.

Seafoam through the PCV. Also try pennzoil platinum full synthetic, claims up to 46% remove sludge in first oil change
yea, i did a third in the brake booster, third in gas, third in oil. let is sit for 10 minutes, cranked it with a little bit of gas and watch your car smoke like a mother ****er
