View Full Version : 2009 Ford Focus RS Test Mule spotted in MI
RS (http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=197960)
As one of the few Focus guys here, I felt compelled to post this. Let the haters hate, and let the car guys appreciate. Things are looking up for Ford, and this for the U.S. on the new global Focus platform would be another step in the right direction.

ive been a fan of the RS as long as ive been a fan of WRC. if this comes to market and the 2010 STis arent much to look at, this may indeed be my next purchase - even if its a ford, lol.

i'm pretty sure it's like 300bhp/340tq, i just read the review in modified mag the other day. this car looks awesome and gets good reviews.

Yeah, it's a nice looking little beast, but it's also pretty much the same price as the STi and not as fast according to Modified Mag.

That would be a bit disappointing if they priced it up with the new STI. If Ford was able to bring the price down they would be in a better position, IMO. Either way the specs and looks of this car are great! I hope Ford follows through!

not as fast because its FWD, but they still say it puts the power down as if it was AWD.

In the current Road and Track they mentioned only 1 coming to the USA for one of the Ford high up's, i just forget what position he was. I was disappointed when i read it was FWD but after reading multiple reviews it seems like a great car. Would love to see what a modded one put down for power. I'm really liking the green one all of the press has been driving, but the white looks great as well.
It's FWD, but it has a new front suspension geometry called Revoknuckle which was developed by Ford Team RS engineers in Aachen, Germany. Rumor is the new MS3 will employ Revoknuckle as well. It has no torque steer, and minimal wheelspin. Its 0-60 isn't a quick as the EVO and STI because it can't launch like AWD. From there, it will hand those two cars it's ass both straight line and around the track. It has the Volvo 2.5L 5-cylinder motor, and everything about it has been retuned by Team RS to make the power. It has a revised clutch/bearing package in the trans over the Focus ST, and has a track-tuned suspension. The Focus is a fabulous handling car, and it's a great platform to start with. This car beat the Ford GT around Ford of Europe's test track in Belgium, and is expected to run a very low 8-minute lap time around the Nordschleife circuit.

Car looks and performs awsome no doubt!! But obviously Ford can only take credit for paying someone else to design the car (a shot at ford not the car). Don't get me wrong, the car looks great and performs great and if they did AWD it would be a serious all around contender for all cars.
It reminds me of the Escort Cosworth!! I love t.
Who else designed the car? It's a Ford chassis, and all the motor work is done by Ford Team RS...
Fun car no doubt!

I also read in the same article that they had a few AWD test mules but it didnt perform the way they wanted to. I don't have the mag in front of me but when i get a chance i'll post up exactly what they said about the awd test mules.

I remember seeing something like that too. It was along the lines of making the car too sluggish, heavy, complex, and expensive.

Your right, but the engine is a re-tuned Volvo engine and the looks are def evo meets sti. It does look hot though! Hopefully they dont charge 30k+ for it. It should be mid 20's considering they didnt design the car completly from scratch.

It's a Volvo block and that's where the Volvo-ness ends. Everything else about the motor is Ford tuned, tested, and built. And the looks if you read the one link I posted, are derived solely from the Focus WRC, which may I add, has wiped up the floor with the EVO and STI. Not trying to pick a fight or be a pain in the ass, just wanna set the record straight because people, especially on this forum, are too quick to hate on Ford when they are putting out some sweet cars.
I agree with the price. It's not being AWD will help keep the cost down, plus the fact that the Global Focus will be produced in Michigan as well as Germany.

But this car is soooo sick and I will own one. And I will be swapping the AWD system into it from the REAL RS's. Cause that's how it should of came.

since most of what i was planning to say is already stated here, ill just requote.
i think the Rs is a great car and have always known about it and wished it was here but its pricing is gonna be through the roof. it stayed fwd to keep price down but the current exchange rate would pit this bugger at least 35k which is down right insane. but then again, 35k and 40k for sti and evo respectively is also insane if you ask me and they sell just fine so maybe it will fit right in.
the revoknuckle is more awesome than most people will even understand. ive gotten the rundown on how it works and how itll benefit a huge power fwd car and its staggering. sadly, the new ms3 will more then likely NOt get it.
the Rs is a ford and designed by ford, and most specifically, the engine/trans/ suspension is all ford designed. a volvo block is pretty much all thats borrowed.
i think it looks great in white and has incredible performance, i give it much props.....*prop giving......*
PnS please go easy on the shots you give to sti/evo for your own sake, remember what forum you're on :(

The Focus RS looks amazing in white. I really hope if comes state side. With a powertrain is has, suspension, and styling I think it would do very well in the U.S. market. I work at a Ford dealership and I know that they are bringing over a new redesigned 2011 Ford Fiesta from the European countries late next year. They are also redesigning the U.S. Ford Focus for the 2011 production year. If they do bring over the Focus RS it will probally be around that time aswell. As for price, my guess, it will probally start around $29,000 and go up to the low $30,000's. Ford right now is notorious for having high sticker prices but offering thousands back in cash rebates and special financing. I will keep my ears open to anything I hear about the Focus RS and be sure to post it.

Tell me about it. 9 out of 10 people here are real cool. The remainders tend to think that if you don't drive an EVO, STI, or 240, then you don't belong, or they're just generally a douche. That's disappointing.
We can all speculate about price, but none of us really know at this point. I do know for a fact the global MKIII Focus will be produced in Michigan and Germany.

NOPSTONS - you again? haha (just messin man)
I 100% agree on the revoknuckle and its some fine engineering no doubt!!.
pns - sorry if I came off like a hater! I get weird with car companies swapping tech. (import - domestic) I even get upset with all these LS1's going in imports.
When I saw the HP #'s I couldnt wait to see what they had going on engine wise. Then I saw it was a Volvo engine and the first thing that came to my mind was "wtf ford, you should had Cosworth build you the block or something" They of course made changes to the head, cam, and intake manifold making the engine better (kudos) but it still wasnt enough for me to now consider it a Ford engine.
I know its still me hating, but its not in the way your thinking (I think). I like the way the car looks, handles, and love the power numbers. Just imagine how freaked out I'll get if Honda comes out with a new Muscle car powered by a Hemi haha!

Ford owns Volvo, so it is a Ford motor.
I don't see the big deal... companies owned by the same group often swap technology. I'm pretty sure, next to money, that is a big motivator for a company to purchase another one.

I actually didn't know Ford bought Volvo. And of course when one Company buys another it’s for their information including tech, marketing, resources, etc. That goes without saying and is something else I’m not big on with the industry (but of course with anything money talks and can get just a bout anyone to sell out).
(I just ran the analogy threw my head with saying if someone builds a car ground up and sells it that the new owner isn’t "really" the owner and shouldn’t be able to take credit for the build. Unless of course the new owner added to the build putting his twist on things)
After running that threw my head I think I might be coming around with the Volvo engine considering Ford did make changes (and good ones) to make it theirs .
The Volvo S40 and C30 are built on the Focus chassis...for info's sake.
Never been a domestic fan, but there's a few that I like, and the Focus is definitely on my things to buy list. I would trade my Evo in for one:lol:! Always loved the old Cosworth Excort also!

FordNA has been chatting up a RS since 99.... I'll believe it when I see it, and I'll see it while signing the financing.
