View Full Version : Traffic Lights With Sensors

In my area most of the traffic lights are controlled by sensor strips in the ground. The light will stay green for an infinite amount of time if a vehicle does not approach the lights from the intersecting road. I'm sure police officers are aware of this.

My problem is....when I'm on my bike a lot of times the sensors wont trip. So I can be sitting there for quite some time until a car pulls up behind me. If its late at night I've been just running the lights.

This is pretty ridiculous. If you were to witness something like this...and I explained the situation...would I be let off?

If its 2am and its just you and me I would stop you but once you told me what the deal was don't expect a ticket from me, not saying others would be a understanding

I had the same problem on my bike it use to drive me crazy, two words

Neodymium magnets

The sensors work by the field of large metal objects (vehicles) disrupting the buried wire under the road, bikes are sometimes to small to trip it. I know it sounds like a loud of crap but if you put a couple natural earth magnets on your bike it actually works.

Definitely it sounds like some cheesy infomercial off TV like "for only 19.99 you too can get a green light" but yes it actually works
