So, due to people always saying that I should drop my car, this is how it sat:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v614/Grolthok/car%20stuff/rimz001.jpg
Dropped on H&R's 1.5" all around
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v614/Grolthok/car%20stuff/coilovers001.jpg
The "Too Low" setting that I had when all 4 corners were rubbing
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v614/Grolthok/car%20stuff/coilovers002.jpg
New setting. Front raised about 1/2", maybe less. It took the rears off the rear quarters as well.
Oh, and a nice tire shot from when I was doing them:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v614/Grolthok/car%20stuff/fail001.jpg
Still playing with the settings to make sure there's no more rub. I have to repair a CV join on the right side cause I kinda put a hole in it when I did the struts and didn't notice it til today when there was grease all over the place.
I know, I know, it still doesn't look that low. I can tell you that my pinch welds are less than 2.5" off the ground or so. The rockers are about 3 to 3.5". Maybe a bit higher. Still can't get a standard jack under them.

Not all cars have to tuck to be considered dumped. If you EVER saw the underside of my car, or how the suspension reacts at all, you would know that it's impossible to have your tires tucked and drive it.

Why is it that your camera makes your car look low? Mine never does. Maybe it's my angle.
My Satillac was sitting at the same height as yours. AMR's must be monstrously stiffer, because I slammed the **** out of the wheel liners and ripped chunks of it apart in about 1 mile. I raised it significantly now. Still looks really good, but it rides SO much better.
*edit*
The "Too Low" setting had it so that turning the wheel had about 1/32" between the tire and fender. If I was lucky. I looked at my back tires today, and saw quarter marks from the bumps slamming the sidewalls of the tires. All within a mile. =(
Oh yeah, 1g coupes though...no flares on the fenders. Makes it a bit easier to make em look good, methinks.

06-25-2008, 03:56 PM
All about the angle, and the grass in front of the camera there helps with that as well hahah.
My spring rates are 400lb front and 500lb rear, I'd imagine the Carerra came with softer possibly. You have to remember I don't daily drive or race at this height. It was only for some photos before I took the coilovers off for storage this past winter.

Go to tire rack and grab some Spring Extreme 2.5's.
Unless you got that dough boy fresh thing goin on and wanna grab a set of coilovers, then you can dump 1300 bucks into a set of AMR's.

Yeah. They came with two different rates. There was a set of mid 200ish, and a set of mid to high 300ish as an option, which the second is what Lane had when he used modified Koni's in the housings. These feel a TON stiffer than the H&R's, which are already mid/high 200's, so I'm gonna say that they're the +300 option. The ride quality, even with the extreme stiffness of the springs, is WAY better, IMO, than the H&R's were. Turns are far flatter (even with the bull**** alignment that I have on there. I should get it checked BAD, after this install), and everything just feels nice. I had a piece of liner that I broke when I rubbed through the pop rivet get bent down, and it was hitting the tread of the RS2's. Sounded like a card in my spokes.

Yeah man, I feel you're pain on not being able to go any lower. Not only is this the lowest I can go without spending $1200 on coilovers, but any lower and i'll rub. I already rub the rear on speed bumps. I do like how Saturn sets up the suspension so when you lower it, the tires are tucked or at least close, and the front still clears speed bumps and steep driveways lol.

Man, the only good thing about Saturn suspension setups are that they're fully independant macpherson style. Adam and I have pointed out multiple times that our cars can't go lower than what we've posted. Not without damaging a LOT of things. At my "too low", like I said, I cracked both of my front fender liners and started shaving my rear inside fenders. Within 1-2 miles, not going over 35mph.
Don't get me wrong, the setup is nice as ****, but really, there's NOT that much space between the strut and tire. Maybe 1/4" at the most.
*edit*
Oh, you have an Ion. Yay for pictures not loading right away.
That looks nice as hell.
I didn't think it was possible to lower them properly because of what Saturn called a "semi-independent rear suspension", but everyone else in the tuner world calls it a solid ****ing metal beam rear. Thought you had to bend that **** to get it aligned after you dropped it. Unless you're just rocking hardcore negative camber.

Thanks dude...yeah, the negative camber in the rear is noticeable if you're looking for it, but it's not TERRIBLE. Just enough to make for some good handling, but not enough to wear one side of the tire too much.
It was a monster truck when I bought it, so I'm pretty happy with how it looks after I put the B&Gs on it.

Agreed, however, she doesn't need to change out the whole engine to swap to DOHC.
She could just put a DOHC head and timing kit on it, and have a nitrous ready longblock. It's not that much lower compression than stock anyway.

Factory adjustments are wicked on these cars. You can align for a large range of drops without one.

It's not useless BS. It's the truth. She'd have lower compression, and even still with nitrous, she'd have less change of detonation with that. Yes, it may be better suited for higher compression, but it doesn't matter.

Yes, I do.
You would be surprised. Ask 90% of the people that have been around FAR long than you.
Stay out of my threads if you're going to just be a ****ing douchetard.
If you were actually in the scene for a decent amount of time, you'd have seen the build that I wrote up for my car that I'm actually working on. It was on TSN.
It was fairly close to what Ian is building now, with other differences. It eclipsed Ian's 388 build, but his new build, I'm fairly certain, will destroy even mine.
And before you even start **** with that, suspension on my car needed to be done, period. Braking and handling before speed is always my priority. That, and the fact that I don't have a lot of money to get the project rolling easy (as anyone can tell you that the manual swap took like 2 years or so of parts gathering), nor do I have a daily driver, since this car would NOT be even CLOSE to one.
I've already done a lot of research into the OBDII system to run it without codes. It's just time and money that I don't currently have.
Learn who you're talking to before you try making bull**** up. Kob should be able to back me up on most of this, since he's been around longer than I have (I think).

As for your build, I've been on TSN forever and don't remember ever seeing anything about this build your talking about. All the problems you've been having lately with the car are if you ask me, incredibly noobish with easy explainations and solutions. Half assed work or something, I don't know, but it's very simple stuff I've never even heard of before on the s-series.

Been hearin some good stuff about the Monroe's now. I know the fronts are back to stock on the Monroe's, but I heard they dampen far better than the GR-2's.

Half assed tools. Most of my **** is at work, my ramps are missing, so everything I do anymore is on a jack with one side in the air, and I only bring what I need usually. I rarely work on my own car anymore. Always working on a V-dub or a Honda. Or, at work, equipment that is 20-30x the size/weight of my car.
Most of the issues I'm having are frustration/heat related brainfarts. I hate working on blacktop driveways, and I hate being without my car. I try to rush, and I **** up when I do it.
As far as that post, I don't remember what forum it was in. It has 2 possible outcomes. Huge power, or huge explosion. It was titled: "ten oh twenty". Made turbo lag not a big problem and had a fairly decent spool range using a diesel hybrid. Estimated by I THINK Mike to be in the low 500's at the wheel. Ian's probably hitting that now anyway, so it doesn't even matter. It's a pretty decent build, but like I said, at that kind of power, I need a second car.

Money and no second reliable car. The first is easy to get around. The second, not so much.
I discussed a lot of things with teh ashun on his cell phone when he was still working at the bank. Along with Sam Bretz for the head design that's in my garage. Sam's most aggressive P&P ever for maximum flow. I have to check the intake side, but I THINK he smoothed out the 90* downturn.
