I'm new to this site. This is actually my first post. I noticed one post on tst stating that Auto Smart is not a place to buy from, but why? That post was created by a disgruntled ex-employee. I have searched the entire internet and cannot find a single story about someone that bought a vehicle there and was unhappy. I'm in the Market for an 03 EVO and I'm ready to buy soon. They have a great selection. I'm asking if they are so bad can someone please explain their story of getting ripped off and not just through the grapevine stories? Thanks for anything! I would steer clear of them if I found some solid proof of people getting ripped off, but all I find are comments like "They suck, they are a scam, they are shady" but there is no information to back it up. No offense but I don't take an ex-employees words too serious since he was fired. Thanks again for any info. I hope someone can help me.

He was fired for a rediculous reason. One that I believe could be argued I'm friends with him and the cars they pick up are really beat up on. There was maybe one or two cars there that were half decent. However they send the cars they get to and get it bandaid together and then sell it for a rediculous amount

Well this site seems pretty cool right off the bat. Can't say I predicted a response like this.

No proof = I'm buying. I can't find a single story anywhere online that someone was ripped off with proof.

rather than take peoples word for it, or not.....can you call like the BBB and see if they have had any formal complaints filed against them?

If half the stuff that was said in that other thread is true, i'm sure they would have had some claims against them.

the only proof that i could gather would be when i went there with a friend. we walked around the lot for a good 15 minutes until some1 came out. when he came out every word was horsepower this and horsepower that. They had a mod list of everycar. After hearing the mod list of the "stock turbo 425+ hp evo" i asked him how the trans and t case are. After a breif, but confusing, reponse, i knew that the place was shady. Then after all 10 minutes of the "Salesman" being outside, he just walked back inside and that was the end of that. Even though i was just inteserted in looking, he didnt know that. So we just left.

In my opinion, very very shady. What I do know is that they buy their cars off ebay. These ebay cars may or may not be broke in someway, and the dealer is trying to flip them

Well of course they're catering to the sportscar world, and they're salesmen... I think you could probably do better on knowing what you're getting and on price if you did a little homework and found one from a private buyer, but I think anyone with a half decent head on their shoulders can conclude the pros and cons of going to a 'used sports car dealership'...at best its more or less the same as any used car dealership I would think.

If you are looking to buy a used EVO, buy privately. I only say this because its alot easier to know how the car was taken care of. I personally dont trust used cars like WRX,STi,EVO,SRTs blah blah blah because most have had the crap kicked out of them and if its modded theres a higher likeliness of it. The last thing you want is to buy some ones botched job. There was a person on here who sold his highly modded STi that needed a new engine among other things that ended up on that lot not quite fixed so becareful buying there. shoot for a newer EVO if you really want it bad so you can skip the transfer case bull.

They do buy cars off of ebay, take it to pep boys and when pepboys tells them what all needs to be done they only do the bare minimum to make sure it runs with no codes and thats it. I know because I have a friend who was a mechanic there and told me

This is true, they sold a jetta with a bad headgasket, it would cut out and the motor would jump when u gave it gas and it smoked, so they patched up the hg with some silicone and sold the car, also, the mustang they are selling with the fmic, the back of the frame is twisted.

I used to work there, i know the cars. Most of the cars i drove from reading back to levittown for them. Some cars had aftermarket parts stolen off them, only to be replaced with stock parts that dont make them run right.

Just a heads up, i would stay away.

the question to be asked is not "is this used car dealer bad"

the question to be asked is "is there a used car dealer that ISNT "

Thanks for the info, for now I'll keep looking. Hoping to find one that was never modded but what are the chances of that. Also avoiding a dealership that only sells used isn't such a bad idea.

i went there 2 months ago n looked at the blue srt they have. the battery was dead. the salesman was like come back in a week and well have a battery so u can test drive it. i was like just jump it and he said they couldnt do that. that was when i was serious about buyin a car and my dad was wit me. they seemed pretty shady there as said before too.

funny we never have complaints about our porsches and s4s and z4s. we even get repeat customers a lot, but this is all because we BS our brains out
