I remember hearing no...wouldnt call penndot though to find out...when i got a ticket and called the court they said not to call the insurance company because sometimes they dont even find out but if you tell them they will know and might raise your rates...again im not sure, but just wait to get an answer without calling penndot or your insurance company

I think it's only certain states. I was in the car once with someone who got a ticket in VA and the cop told us that they were set up to transfer points to PA but I've gotten tickets in Maryland that never transfered...I don't know if things have changed in the past 4-5 years though?

Jersey doesn't transfer to PA. And a few others don't either. But, IIRC, PA transfers everywhere.

I got a ticket in New York state for speeding (8 points), but I lived in PA at the time and have now moved to NJ. How many points will transfer from my Pennsylvania license to my New Jersey license?
Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey are all part of a Driver License Compact (DLC) that allows for the member states to report tickets received by motorist back to the state where the license was issued. Each state that takes part in the DLC can have its own rules about how they put this information onto your record or assess points for out of state tickets.
Pennsylvania has decided that even though minor traffic offenses such as speeding, running red lights, etc are reported to to Penn DOT, that these offenses will not appear on your PA driving record. So unless your New York speeding ticket was considered a major traffic offense it does not likely appear on your PA driver's license.
Now when moving and becoming a resident of a different state and obtaining a new driver's license, many states do not transfer points from your old state over to your new license. They will normally check to make sure that any old violations were properly taken care of though before issuing a new license.
For insurance purposes, points from your old license can be seen because if you recently moved to a new state many insurance companies will also check your driving record in your former state. If you have more questions regarding your driving record in PA or your new license in NJ, you can contact the state's Departments of Motor Vehicles.

So, unless your violation is a major infraction that might result in license suspension it should not be a problem. However, license suspensions and serious offenses can be transferred. Look up what the penalty in NY is for your violation and that will let you know if you need to worry. If the violation carries a suspension in NY, your license will be suspended in PA. If it is just a point and dollar fine than it will not show up on your PA record.

+1..exactly.
Whoever said everything transferred everywhere has no idea about the DLC..and i've called PennDot..and it is confirmable. it's also on their website. It's also on here if you search. I think you'll be ok in my personal opinion.

What? That's the worst advice ever! Never just pay the ticket! ALWAYS got to court and at least attempt to plead it down. That being said, again different states have different rules. I believe in NJ out state points tickets in states that have reciprocity with NJ are assessed at 2 points per violation.

So you're going to drive 6 hours to argue a 115$ ticket?

Only if the points will transfer to my home state. You never realize how much a ticket can screw you until you try to insure a car like a WRX.

Well..if they don't follow the DLC, they will transfer. If they do..they won't...

I'm not sure about a suspended licence but I do know that NJ has a resiprical(sp?) rule/law. If you get points out of state, not only do you get the points transfered into NJ from where you got them, but NJ tacks 2 more on for getting points out of state.

That is not true at all. NJ will only transfer a maximum of 2 points back onto your license...I've been there and done that.

If your license is suspended, I am 99% sure that NJ will not issue you a new one until the PA suspension has expired.

I got 2 tickets while living in PA, but all my documentation was NJ. The points I got in PA transfered to NJ and got 2 additional points for each ticket from NJ.

Or, you could try reading this:

And this:

PA does not put on your record or assess points for speeding tickets out of state, end of story. Other than those offenses listed in the DLC, serious traffic offenses that would result in a suspension in PA if it had occurred in PA will transfer and result in a possible suspension.
As for NJ, 2 points for every offense reported back, regardless of offense.

Yeah, the thing is I stated "not guilty" on the ticket for now, and my court date is on october 15th in staten island. I am not sure what the ticket cost is cuse over 31 mph they say you have to appear in person. Should I attend the court date and just state that it was 1 am on a wednesday morning driving home from NYC and I wasn't paying attention the the mph?? I got caught on laser.

Well if it's a "court appearance required" ticket and you have to go to court then get 1/2 hour before court starts. Talk to the prosecutor and or the office officer. If you have a clean record up till this point tell them that too.....they may cut you a little break. You're lucky you didn't get towed on the spot on given a wreckless driving ticket in addition but as long as you weren't an ass to the cop....he'll might hook ya up. Good luck.
*OH BTW call the court at least a week in advance and inform them you intend to plead not guilty or you might have to make two trips.....*
