I have had my position as an overnight supervisor at a traffic management agency for about 4 years now. I have the opportunity to move to during the day. I work 6pm until 6am right now, day shift is 6am until 6pm.
pros/cons for working nights:
10% more an hour/less work
more down time
I am the highest level of management from 10pm until 6am
dress down
I can do stuff during the day if I wake up early enough
night kinda drags at times

pros/cons for working days:
I will have get hair cuts more frequently as well as shave more often
I will have to get dry cleaning done more often
more exposure (people don't even realize I still work there cause they never see me) edit more of an opportunity to try to get promoted
I will be able to do stuff at night
less money/more work
day shift goes by faster for some reason
working during the day is normal
my GF would be happy

um I can't think of anymore at the moment. If I come up with more I wll add them
I haven't been approached to for the shift yet. But I was told that I should let it be known that I have interest in it as it will look better then me just being complacent with where I am at right now. As far as the loss of money which was a big concern of mine. I was told to say that I would like to have the day shift, but the money is really needed, and maybe my boss will give me a little raise like half of what I would get for a year working at night

edit forgot to mention how my schedule works it rotates ever 2 weeks
1st week work mon and tues off weds and thurs work friday, sat
2nd week work sun then off mon and tues and then work weds and thurs, then off fri and sat

I work overnight shift at my work...And pretty much have control of the store (wawa) But as in your case they offer an incentive for doing it and pay you more, Right now Its winter, I dont do much and I need all the money I can get.

Once you get used to it you can still do alot of things during the day without feeling to tired...It just sucks if your out and its nighttime you have to go into work and it kinda eliminates the social life...Especially for you starting at 6. I start at 10pm and work till 7am but I usually go in at 9pm and get an extra hour of OT.

If you think you can survive money wise on dayshift...Do it I'd love to work day shift since i did it for a year until I left the job...But it lets you live more of a normal life in a sense.

I'm working the nights right now, covering for the normal guy. I ABSOLUTELY hate it with a freaking passion. I have no motivation to do a damn thing, i sleep almost all day and wake up like an hour before i need to be at work. Night shift is for the birds.

^^ yeah I know what you mean. That's what I was 1st doing when I got the shift. Now I am able to wake up earlier then needed for work. but still pretty much not wanting to go and do anything.

Day shift FTMFW.

I worked 3rd shift while I was in school 10-6 and it was awful and I hated every second of it.

okay so here is how this played out. I spoke to my boss on Friday night. He told me whom they promoted to a new supervisor and asked me if I had a problem with them moving the other overnight supervisor to the day shift. I said actually yes I do I figured as me being the more senior person that I would get it if I wanted it. He said they would like to keep me the more senior on the overnight, and the other senior person on the day and move the other overnight to the day and the new person without the seniority to the overnight. So there is 1 strong supervisor per shift. Thanked me for my understanding and said we would revisit this later on and see about it then.
Guess I am stuck with the overnights for now
with the more pay :D and less work :D

Doesn’t sound like you’ve got it too bad. What are your days off? You work 12 hours so I’m guessing you have 3 days off maybe more?

I’d say make the most of the time. I started off working nights and then decided to stick with it because I got my hands in several different projects. It would’ve been harder to accomplish all the things I needed to do if I was working days. There were times when I was really pushing it (utilizing almost every hour of the day) but the benefits are coming back.

Time is something that we don’t have and it’s constantly slipping away from us. Make the most of the time you have (I tell ALL my friends the same thing.) Try and accomplish some other things for yourself that will help push you forward during the day. Go to school, start a business, etc.
