Best filter brand

What is the best air filter brand BESIDES K&N. I have a stock intake box and am looking for a drop-in (NOT K&N).

I kept saying not K&N because there will be that one person who says it anyway

K&N is the only one that I know of that is any good, that drops into the stock air box. Honestly, unless its a super soft mushroom mesh one, they are all the same.

reason I say no K&N is because Drop in filters from them yield no gains, hence I see no reason to install a filter which allows only a marginal amount more of air, not even worth mentioning and allows more dirt through than a standard filter.

All those brands are more or less the same... they are built at OEM specifications. I normally just get what ever is cheaper if I don't have an intake on a car.

i don't know if they make a drop in but Amsoil is a great company, & many people in the evo community use them with success.

So now this makes it really confusing. You don't want a stock filter and you don't want a filter that supposedly "flows better" that supposedly is a waste of money.

Your only options now are another filter brand that improves flow compared to the original filter or a stock replacement.

That brings me to the confusion part. If you're just looking for a stock replacement have you ever thought about driving your car to pepboys, advance auto, auto zone? All places where you can purchase a replacement air filter that isn't the stock expensive ones. What is this world coming to now a days. :lol:

Amsoils EA air filters is what you are looking for. They are supposed to flow more air while still filtering well.

So you are trying to find less restrictive oe filter replacements? Make sense mane. :lol:You stated earlier you didn't want k&n since it lets to much debris in. You either want something free flowing for whatever power you can get from it or something that is stock that will block all the dirt and crap.

Who told you k&n drop in filters don't flow more? I'm not saying either way, I'm just curious who told you that.

Also, you can clean and re-oil a k&n prolonging its life and not have to keep buying new paper elements.

Purolator makes awsome stuff, especially for the price. It is what I use on all my cars, except the GTO because I have the full KNN intake.

Also there is no gains to be had from a KNN drop in. GM High Preformance mag did a test awhile back with a V8. They did no filter, stock filter, and KNN. It was less then 1 HP gained with KNN VS no filter... I've never spend all that for a drop in just to spend another $15 on the cleaning it.

If you're NOT looking for a lot more power, the K&N drop-in might be worth a second look if fuel economy is part of your equation.
We put the K&N drop-in into the wifes 2010 Legacy 3.6R & saw a roughly 3 MPG (average) increase. Then another 2ish when we switched to synthetic.
We've managed up to 33 MPG on the highway at 75-80 mph coming home from Massachusetts, 35 MPG @ 5 over the limit.

I originally thought we'd get a little more punch when starting out from a light etc. (with the k&n) I was disappointed until she told me her avg. fuel economy had increased.
Then we compared the notes (yes, she keeps notes :)) from before the filter & synthetic changeover.
The only other possible scenario is that the car was still breaking in..... We did the filter & oil a week apart at around 4500 miles. First oil change on the new car.

Well I bought a Purolator Pureone air filter since it was the same price as a regular Purolator, I have to say I am quite impressed with the construction of the product and quality, seems to flow pretty good. I feel a gain but thats probably because I ripped all of the airbox resonators out.

Either way for quality I can vouch now for Purolator, I will revive this post should it die prematurely. I also replaced my cabin filter which was beyond the word of disgusting. Rotted, falling apart, and dirt and dirt everywhere. Yuck

Interesting. So you can feel gains just from changing your air filter and removing resonators? :lol: I can assure you it's not gains you're feeling. The added noise is playing tricks on you.

How about AEM? I'm sure they have OE replacements. I've been running my AEM intake on my car with a dryflow filter and I like it. I don't know if they'll have wat u want but it's worth a look
