1994 G20 A/T Transmission Issues

Well I just picked up a '94 G20 with some Transmission issues from a friend. He had swapped out the Transmission with a refurbished one but him and his step dad arn't really tech savy. The car run fines, besides a bad IACV, but thats another issue all together. The Transmission is very sluggish, it feels like it is in limp mode but when I did a check on the Trans it didn't bring up any codes. Reverse seems fine, but all the forward gears seem to be starting in either 2nd or third, and are sluggish. I checked the fluid and its a bit high but not too high so I doubt that is the problem. When driving the car it seems to stay around 2k RPM but has gone up to 3k a few times. In Neutral and Park is revs just fine.

Searched all through the G20 forums but can't get an answer on what this could be. Anyone have any ideas?

He swapped out the old transmission because of metal chunks.

Hard to say where I'd being troubleshooting.

Does the car shift fine, or is it jarring? Does it cruise at 2k, or does it not rev at all above those RPM's when in gear?

You're also positive the car has no vacuum leaks/maf issues to put the engine itself in limpmode?

9/10 it sounds like this trans is also shot...but troubleshoot before replacing it.

Car doesn't shift out of the gear it starts in. I've gotten it up to about 30 mph. Now i just messed around with it last and noticed that when in first the car isn't moving at all. It revs to 2k but the car doesnt move. 2nd and Drive still drive it sluggish. Only engine code there is, is the IACV. And the transmission ECU isn't showing any codes.
