Love the build. Looks like i need to get my turbo setup done. I dont want to be the only import around not trapping 140mph.

Just got this in! Jays racing alternator relocation kit. Its a nice piece. Now the altenator will be nice and comfortable behind the motor out of mr 42s way. I also got my JMF intake manifold back today from getting a crack welded, damn boost leaks. So im going to slap that on the car and get it to my buddys shop to swap on the new stuff, and start making the 4 inch v-band exhaust!

So i have all my goods together to put on My ON-GREEN t4 cast manifold with a gt4294. Now ive been searching for mandrel piping. Its really expensive to get this done. I was looking into stainless but you have two different kinds 409 and 304 stainless. 409 is from the explaination what they use on factory exhaust systems for cars/trucks and ofcourse less expensive. 304 is typically what nice tubular manifolds like dnp etc, and way more expensive. I can definatly think of better ways to spend 1k instead of on stupid pipes.

Talking to acouple friends that are fabricators i gained some information. I was told if money is tight, do a mild steel downpipe, have it ceramic coated. I was going to put another v-band to seperate the downpipe from the back part of the exhaust. The 2nd part of the exhaust is going to be aluminized. Found out i have to use a 309/312 mig wire, if i remember gas to be used is straight argon.

I planned on doing full 4" turboback, but now maybe for the sake of making it alittle easier i might do 3 1/2". I doubt ill see any or little loss, but if anyone thinks otherwise please let me know.

Now the question is for guys who fabricate exhaust, and maybe know were to go with things as ceramic coating, metal type please let me know. It comes down to this...

If i was to do stainless would 409 be ok, and can it be coated? Or sould i just up for a 304 stainless downpipe (remember after the downpipe, there will be a v-band then aluminized steel the rest of the exhaust).

Or sould i just to a mild steel downpipe, get it ceramic coated (were is the best, i know jet hot, but other opinions count).

I need to order stuff NOW!

Whats the big deal about SS or MS?? I would just do mild steel if your funds dont allow you. You can get ceramic coating done at a handful of places. JnZ is one of them.

Well ran into some fitment issues with the turbo. Simple solution is a Afco scirocco radiator which will open up room for the compressor outlet. 250 isnt a big deal. Then i can start working on the exhaust.

Alot of the guys on the forums say "do 304 stainless" but it gives a f if its stainless or mild steel as long as it goes fast right?!

I am going to use mild steel on my build. Just get it coated and you will be fine.

what rad did you have? my mishimoto leaves plenty of room for an even bigger turbo. just thought that was interesting.

also mild steel is going to rust quicker. If this isnt a "show AND go" car and its just a "go" car then meh big deal. but i always go stainless just so if its on there a long time i don't run into issues. 409 factory exhausts are meant to deal with slush salt water etc. and last very long. my stock exhaust was in almost pristine condition after 180k when i put on my new exhaust. if your only going to have this setup for a few year 409 would be a bit of a waste i'd think.

What kind of turbo do you have thats bigger then a GT4294? That turbo makes my 60-1 look like a 14b. With a 3.5 inch outlet the stock radiator becomes a issue as you can see in the picture, so i dont see how it wouldnt be an issue especially with an even thicker radiator. Im going to do mild steel and have it ceramic coated. Then downpipe back after the downpipe v-band do aluminized and just VHT 1500 degree paint it. Ive had the same aluminized exhaust on my car for 7 years and is still in perfect order. Its been through snow/salt/70,000 miles of abuse on 3 motors.

noclutch, thanks for the offer, but the Afco Scirocco is in route to my house, and will be here tomorrow.

Well got my downpipe all finished up, what a pain in the BUTT! It was the first downpipe I ever made, Next one ill hopefully have a tig welder, but once i cleaned it up it came out good. Ceramic coating was done by Johnsons Powder Coating in Burlington.

This weekend ill hopefully be finishing up the rest of the exhaust, relocating the altenator and wiring it up, mounting the radiator, and setting up the coilovers. I want this thing running no later then the end of march.

IT RUNS! BUT, there is alot more to get done. I got a big chunk of the work done this weekend. Got the Jays Racing altenator relocating kit in, wired; custom mounted the Afco scirocco radiator in, and got the whole turbo system bolted up. I still have to make brackets for the brake lines, setup the coilovers, finish the back part of the exhaust, fix my clutch pedal assembly, and swap out the trans. The custom twin walbro 255hp setup works great with no issue, car started up like it was stock (gotta love aem). It sounds serious, and angry at the world. Heres some pics.

STOCK! LOL 14B'R powered.

Well the all seasons should do for now, but i acually have 26x9.5x16 hoosier QTPS on some wheels, got them off the guy i bought the manifold off of.
