havent up dated in awhile. anyways i maxed out the 16G set up at 28psi, did some research and went with a bigger turbo, still kind of dialing it in, i maxed out the RC 550 that i had at 22psi on this new set up, i recently switched to PTE 780s. car is running 26psi right now, i'm waiting to get a new downpipe and wire in my PLX wideband, car feels pretty quick, but i still have a few kinks to work out, my tune is really rough and the car isnt nearly as fast as it can be yet.

here is a video of my car running a 12sec sti.

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/s...lon_200247.htm

here are some pics of the turbo.

dr650 (3000gt turbo) and the holset hx35

here is a 14b, E16G, and holset hx35

here is what the engine bay looked like with the 16G

and this is after the hx35.

im pretty sure im going to start saving up for DSMlink next, i will also post the updated mod list on the 1st page

thanks for reading.

My next turbo for the stroker on the stand, lol. I'm in the "saving for Link" boat, too. I've got the funds, just can't find one for a 1G. Damn you Link Ver3! lol

Where'd you pick up the stainless feed line from the head from?

HOLSET's FTW!!! I am looking at putting one of them on my DET in march.....

Nice build-up and nice dedication. It really payed off for you. On a side note are you running cam gears with those cams? I always seem to hear that BC's need to be dialed in to produce nice gains, but once dialed in they supposely produce some pretty nice numbers. I know I had a set in my turbo'ed DE and they did nothing especially compared to the JWT S3's I had in before. Thats when I was told that they really need to be tuned and dialed in. JWT really spoils us SR guys with there drop in and go cams

Anyway be sure to post some vids of that holset. I just drove in a holset powered DSM and was absolutely BLOWN away buy the power. I am sure your having fun now.

Nice!
I would ditch the OEM headgasket and opt for a MLS gasket.

hey steve, i just ran the feed from the head cause i read that i wouldnt need a restrictor or anything, plus its been working well with the 16G so i figured it should be ok, i have about 500 hard miles on this turbo and everything is fine so far!

oh and carver u where totally right about the 550s being WAY too small i maxed them out at 22 and couldnt get anymore out of them, my IDCs where at 100% and the car would break up sometimes at WOT especially when it was cold. I recently installed the PTE 780s and im at 26PSI with 0 knock and 86% duty cycle and no break up at all in any gears, so id like to say once again you where right and keep proving how well u know these cars!

ive talked to assualt and he feels that the stock ECU is really holding me back right now, maybe once spring time comes and they have some test time on the V3 ECMlink ill opt to go with that!

as of right now im just waiting to pay my ticket so i can buy the ebay DP and install my PLX wideband and see if i can tune the AFR a little bit!

hey man thanks for reading and ur comments! right now im just running stock cam gears. the BC cams are really nice, i think you need a big turbo for them to actually do anything, cause on my 16G when i put them in i hardly noticed a difference, but now with this holset the car feels like its rippin pretty well.

hey man ive read and screamingdsm has let me know that the OEM headgasket is good for around ~30 psi. I dont plan to run anywhere near that, right now i'm happy at the 26psi once i can tune it a little bit the car should be good!

but the MLS headgaskets are really nice, in know my Vr-4 uses OEM MLS headgaskets, with stock headbolts people hold like 33psi without problems!

Yeah trust me and Matt, ive been on 26psi on pump gas on a as everyone calls it felblow head gasket. On c16 ive had it 31 32psi with no coolant push issues what so ever. Think of it as a fuse for your motor. This is was on the old school non efficent, your better off getting a gt35r, crappy pump gas 60-1, but somehow it worked for me lol. The idea is to make sure the tune is in check, 0 knock. Tuning is everything, word of mouth is nothing.

Go onto dsmtuners/dsmtalk, search 2003 and earlier post, 60-1 and that such size turbos where considered as big as you would wanna put on your street car. People would swear by 20g's and say thats big. Now street cars run gt42s and Borg warners, holsets. Im sure most of us were taught to follow the path less traveled! Man 5 years ago if you were like man im gonna put this holset on my car everyone would be like "your never going to spool it". Imagine if everyone always listened and noone tryed.

Hell no, ball bearing isnt worth the extra 1000 dollars for 3-400 rpm spool difference. Thats what i have aem ems for. Plus i got this turbo for cheaper then you can get it in ANY performance shop. The "R" on the end of the turbo specifies ball bearing or not, usually if you see a gt35 gt35r gt4294 gt4294r gt28rs are acouple of examples. I think with the 1.01 t4 housing full divided setup it should hit around 4500-5000k leaving me plenty of power band.

lol you dont want to subject any turbo to compressor surge for no reason.

but turbos with antisurge housings are the best against compressor surge.

yeah but id rather pay 4-500 for a rebuild, then 1000-1200 for a new center cartridge. Most cars running turbos of this size where compressor surge will be an issue dont get driven on the street everyday. Plus if your self consious about it backing off the throttle alittle bit when your going to shift and were slightly in boost helps slow the wheel down alittle so it dosent surge.

Surge only happens when a motor cant injest the volume of air being pushed, and there isnt enough air being discharged aka bov. When your going up a hill and are building 5 psi on a 65mm plus compressor size if you back off the gas alittle it will slow the wheel down then shift. This is speaking for 2 liter motors and such.
