Intake?

I was tossing around the idea of getting an aftermarket intake, poss a cobb or perrin or maybe the spt. what would be the pros and cons of this? i was also thinking of just replacing the filter with a k&n and put the saved money towards other mods i want to do

Don't expect much from the performance side adding an intake. It is worth it for the sound though!! I have the Apexi Power Intake which is nice because it has a dry filter, so it won't foul the MAF. The Cobb and K&N Typhoon intakes are nice also.

intakes show little gains on wrx's at stock power levels. They can actually cause your car to run worse than with the stock intake. Unless your looking for over 300hp, the stock intake will be better.

You can buy a GP Moto silencer delete, pretty cheap. I re-installed mine yesterday after removing my COBB intake.

Truthfully I wouldnt cut up/melt plastic on the intake.. You can leave it as it with the silencer removed if need be. Personally I spent the 40 bucks just for that reason.. If I ever needed to put it back on I would have one whole peice. BUT.. I will do some looking around, see what I can find.

You can just remove the silencer.. it's still sucking in cold air from the fender.

I hacked the silencer but left the ram-air on. Is that going to be a prob? I also have heard that cold air's are bad for the turbo, is that true?

Nope, you're fine. As long as the air is going through a filter and you've retained the MAF size you're A-OK.

Cold air intakes are perfectly safe for the turbo... they just don't do a whole lot for performance.

i had a blitz sus for a while... it is the best flowing filter out there... and the worst filtering. its really intended for race applications where the motors are being broken down and rebuilt often... it lets a lot more through and into the motor than other paper and cloth filters on the market. just want to let you know in case that concerns you. if not then i guess its all good.

about getting an intake... i wouldnt at this point. spend the money on an uppipe or downpipe or engine management. do the silencer delete for a bit of sound if you want. an intake will probably not only not increase power, but it may decrease power and also make things slightly more dangerous in the motor since it could lean the system out.
