you can buy them from any where....the trick is getting it tuned right to run your dual vanos motor properly and passing inspection, getting your HVAC and DSC to run properly along with your factory alarm.
can you tell me why do you want to run a stand alone system on your e46? that may help me help you a bit more.

i want a new ecu but i also want to free up some hp at the some time. i want to be able to ajust the programing and read the codes on my car if there are any that way i won't always need to take it to the shop every time i think that there is a problem. i have a concearn with a stand alone unit i eventuialy want to supercharge my car and if i buy a kit will the two be compatable. the software is pretuned for the kit and i don't want to spend countless hours on a dyno trying to tune my car. keep in mind that this will be way down the road.

I don't know exactly how it works on your case. However, my brother has an extreamly modified M5. It's fully built and supercharged. And EVEN HIS car uses a piggyback fuel system. The builder explained to me that a stand alone for late model BMW's is nearly imposible to get running right. There is too many systems in BMW's that really on the stock computer settings.
So just think about this...His is a 800whp bmw still on the stock ecu. Why do you need a stand alone? If you want more power from your ecu get a superchip. Or some other kind of chip. Or if you really wanna get extreme. Talk to Bill at Discovery Automotive. He built my brothers M5. |

if you really want power, you need to find a good tuner for your car who can rewrite your dme. for example, my motor is designed to run 21.5 lbs injectors and 4 o2 sensors stock. I'm currently running 42 lbs injectors, a t60-1 turbo and a custom HFM with only 1 o2 sensor, no cats, no air pump etc, all on my factory DME. to read codes, get yourself a Peake code reader, www.bavauto.com - they run around $150 I think. you want the one that plugs into your obd-II port. get Dinan or Conforti software for your car to free up that missing power that you're looking for. a stand alone computer isn't going to make you happy, it'll just make your car run like crap (as you can see from the DA M5). A piggy back may be used but a full DME rewrite is ideal but hard to get. tell me the options and upgrades you have on your car please. -Ron

you're thinking way too aggresive at this point. stick with a prefab software setup or spend your money on a motorswap retaining the new motor's dme.
