My Savannah Cat... Whip

I've wanted a Savannah for quite some time. What exactly do they call your type? I think that the F1s are as close to pure serval as possible, is this correct?
As much as I'd love to have one, I'd be terrified to buy multi-thousand dollar pet. I'd be heartbroken if anything bad happened to either of our two tabbies. I can only imagine the double whammy of losing a pet thats a family member & the cost of a good used car at the same time.
Also, do you need to go to a specific vet or are cats pretty much cats?

Your spot on. This breeder has some good info on their site: http://www.a1savannahs.com/

As far as a vet, they aren't too much different then a normal cat. Don't declaw, you MUST get them fixed for they will be a PITA, can only have gas to knock them out for surgery, and a ultra high protein diet so none of the cheap catfood. We buy Blue Wilderness brand.

I'll check the site out in a bit. I have a 10:00 appointment to show a used 08 WRX (224 HP Bleh )
I'd never declaw ANY cat, I keep my pets stock, the exception is getting them fixed of course. Our guys are indoor cats, but a quick escape could mean a litter of unknown or worse unwanted kitties. Not cool.
My tabby, Ricky is almost 12 years old & still going strong. When the inevitable happens, we'll most likely be getting a Savannah or Bengal kitten.
Unless they have an all black hybrid by then. The wife wants a real black cat. (She collects them, stuffed, ceramic, etc...) I'm not sure if a panther hybrid is in the works or if they already exist. Any idea?
The other question I'll ask you & the breeder at that site, is how do hybrid kittens get along with domestics that are grown? Jens cat, Jeffy, is about 6 yeas old.... by the time we're down to one cat he could be pretty old himself.
Thanks for the help with this. It's good to know someone who has direct experience with hybrid felines. Youtube vids are fun to watch, but not very informative.

I remember seeing a radom black Savannah here and there on breeder websites. I think they were a really dark grey, almost black with dark black spotting.

There are alot of people with domestic cats and a hybred. The breeder we got our cat from actually had a german shepard in the house and they would play together. I think alot depends on how well the cat is socialized more then the breed. I also wouldn't get an F1 and would only get an F2 if it wsa properly socialized, ect. F3 seem to be the best for house pets from what I've reasearched. Our cat specifically doesn't seem to get along too well with other animals which is odd being the breeder had the dog and had 2 separete litters of kittens and he played with them all. But then again, we really haven't given him enough time arround other animals either. Just a quick trip to Petco, then hiss and leave so we dont' cause a scene.

One thing to do is def check laws in your area though. Some states don't allow them, some major cities are a no go, military could be difficult with going overseas, ect.. PA isn't bad, NJ isn't bad, MD is a no go state, and DEL doesn't seem to bad but you had to go though inspections and all. I know for a pure Serval, just to get the permit to own in PA you have to already have 2 years of verifiable handling experience at a zoo or something along those lines and a few other things as well.

If you ever do think of getting a Savannah or just wanna come check one out, let me know. Your more then welcome to visit. I'm all for him being arround lots of people and he is a blast. They are really high energy so it is litereally like owning a dog that craps in a litterbox but plays like a cat/dog(ours plays fetch but isn't too good about giving you the toy) lol

My Savannah Cat... Whip

That is a really generous offer!
The wife & I are in center valley pa. (near dorney park)
How far are you from there?
She'd probably be more keen on a third cat being a savannah for our boys to play with if we got to hang out with one for a few hours.

I was just on their site.
They had an all black SBT a while ago!
This could be VERRY interesting, how big do they SBTs usually get vs. a typical house cat?

I think SBT just means that the cat can be 'shown'. Other then that, I really don't know a whole bunch about it specifically because it wasn't something we were looking for. I think it is more the F# that has to do with size though.

They are crazy expensive though and I have an odd feeling we will be getting another one in the next few months too. He needs a friend while I'm at work.
can you pm me where you got him from? and your price because Ive been looking at getting one for a while now. Its either that or a female boxer inthe next month or two. or both..
