Why the **** am i shooting smoke!?

Ok so i bought my2008 vw gli with 2800 miles on it and now i have about 6800 a month later. I have been noticing and my friends also told me that sometimes when i hit boost or get on it i shoot out smoke. Why does it do that? I have been only putting in 93 octane and i wait a lil bit before i turn my car off after some spirited driving.

VW's have notoriously bad PCV systems...

Background:
The positive crankcase ventilation is supposed to let gases get sucked from the crankcase to the intake manifold when under vacuum. The problem is, when the pcv system fails, and allows positive pressure (boost) to go from the intake manifold back into the crankcase.

The latest PCV is the “G” version. To see which version you have, take a small mirror, and stick it under the pcv valve. The last letter identifies the revision (“E” is shown below). The part # is under the round section:

Symptoms:
-Typically you will see a slight drop in boost pressure. When my pcv failed, I saw a 2 psi drop across the board.
-Some oil will be pushed out through the oil filler cap, and onto the valve cover, and may possibly go towards the coil packs. There may also be some oil on the bottom side of the engine cover, where the oil filler cap is.
-There might be a slight decrease in MPG.
-Rear PCV failure usually results in oil accumulation around the DV, and will produce a little blue oil smoke at WOT applications.

Solution:
-There is the Digitalhippie fix which puts a check valve into the line from the crankcase to the intake manifold. For those who want a spare of the hose where the check valve is installed, the part number is 06F 103 221 F. You can read more about it here: http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/...=8952
-You can also upgrade to the latest PCV “G” valve. There have been very few failures reported with this PCV. Please verify the PCV you have before upgrading.
Part numbers for this upgrade:
PCV valve cover assembly: 06F 129 101 G
PCV valve cover gasket: 06F 103 483 E
PCV valve cover to turbo hose: 06F 103 215 A
PCV tube to turbo metal gasket: 06F 145 757 F

-If you did the DH pcv fix, and you have a rear pcv failure, then you will need to change the tube labeled as "Exhaust turbocharged gas outlet" showin in the pic above. the Part #'s are the last two shown above (06F 103 215 A & 06F 145 757 F)

hope this helps.

My car blows a bit of gray smoke sometimes too, I don't worry about it cause I still get a full 4 quarts out when I change the oil and all my fluid levels are always where they should be.

What's gonna happen is they will not be able to recreate the smoke because they won't even push the car. When you say "no it happens when i beat on it" they will not cover it or flag your warranty for abuse of the car.

Find a VW dealership where you know someone who can turn a blind eye and fix it, though it's really not a problem.

BTW Santosh, these claims you make of 250whp to the wheels with stage 1, and being faster than me with stage 1, I can't find any evidence of this online...I saw a AGP? Stage 1 GLI with a carbonio intake make 206whp...MKV too...and DSG....

Cliff notes: I'm callin you out once you get Stage 1.

Sounds like a PCV problem, which is synonymous with the FSI's. If you take it to the dealer, they will cover it under warranty with a "revised" setup, but it will only fail again later on down the road. We've seen it happen a hundred times. You could go with the Eurojet PCV Fix that has been working for thousands of customers for over 3 years now.

OK, be that as it may, that's still in a nearly 3300lb car thats FWD...I can't imagine a 13 second pass out of that.
