Rare find- 1980 corolla

Came accross this on the NSX forums. It's not mine, nor do I know the owner. Just thought someone may be interested

the only thing i can imagine about a 80 corolla being rare is that its not a rust bucket. personally, i never saw the awe of owning or restoring what was designed to essentially the most basic reliable form of transportation. whats next in the jdm craze, restoring taxis?

These things are a dime a dozen...just kidding...

The whole "awe" of these type cars is...for one, you don't see many on the road, let alone a clean or fixed up one! Secondly, not meant as a diss, but it is a much larger feat to fix something like this up IMO versus, say a STi with an enormous aftermarket supply.

Probably because you can still buy them brand new over there.

Love those when done right. My old neighbors from Juniata Park had 2 of them. White with white interior, and a brown wagon i believe was the other, IIRC. They can be done very nicely.

That is exactly why they are rare. All of them are in PR.

sure. i can see where youre coming from. so would a "clean" 180s era corvette get you going as much? at least youd be starting off with a performance car as apposed to the ultimate grocery getting.

how about this.. in 30 years, do you think the current corolla will turn you on? cause you know there were 100,000 of these on the road in 1980..

I guarantee you in 30 years as a moderate gear head if you saw a 1990s Corolla in good to mint condition you'd get at least a little sentimental and be like "That's awesome!".

And I dont disagree with the 80s Corvette comment some people just have their preferences.

^^ fair enough. im 25, i have no connection at all to early 80s japanese econo-cars. but i can see a lot of love and effort went into the car in question.

A vette would get me going for sure, but in a different way. Part of the beauty is the against the grain thinking of fixing up something like this.

Possibly on the Corolla, but more so something along the lines of a Toyota Tercel or my current car (Infiniti G20)...Something that isn't so common and overlooked often.

its a dare to be different type of car, and you just dont see '80 corollas around, let alone running, so its a cool car in that respect

that being said, i would pick this up for an LS1 swap
