YAY for Windows!

So went out and was street tuning my car today. Battery started to die so I shut the computer down and drove home.

Got it home, plugged it in, turned it on... turned it on... wtf? Windows now suddenly won't boot at all.

I reformatted Windows and it seems to be working again... at the expense of all of my programs/file/blahblahblah.

...hopefully I can retrieve my tune off the ECU. Welp, time to start over I guess.

mac's crash too, get over it...

you should have taken the pc to best buy to see if they could have backed up the HD before reformatting.

Sometimes its fun to start over with a computer

i'm almost positive i never claimed macs didn't crash. I just prefer the operating system and the speed and smoothness of running applications on it.

you windows people get so defensive.

Not going to lie, I LOLed at the BB comment.

Yeah, I don't really mind starting over because I don't have much on here program wise... however I do have all of my car pics/vids that I lost.

Oh well, just pisses me off really.

If it's worth the trouble, you can always get a hd to usb connector. They're like 25 bucks and are worth every penny. Take the hd out of your laptop (very easy for me, actually just one screw), hook the hd up to this little thing which as a usb cord and hook that up to another computer. Runs like an external hd then and you can back it all up to another computer or another external hd. Thats what i do everytime.

^ Good idea actually, I'll have to look into that. Only problem is that this is a laptop that I use to tune cars with, so naturally any extra baggage is a problem.

not really extra baggage. You only use it when you need to get data off the hd. (in case of a crash)

little info: http://www.newertech.com/products/usb2_adaptv2.php

That sucks man, I suppose you attempted to start windows in safe mode? [F8 during first boot screen] If you reformatted... everything is gone off the hard drive. I think you can get just a small USB flash drive, I have a 4gb one that I got for my birthday, and its hella small.

A mac can tune cars, and play games, its called a Windows partition. Meaning you split the hard drive into two parts, one part for the Mac OS, and another for Windows, and your games and such.

Because I was going to do it anyway within the next few weeks, and I also couldn't think of any other way to get it to boot.

Tried safe mode, no dice.

Damn that sucks. I stopped getting into computers after I finished building mine, I'm sure there could be another way to have to really attempted to get it to boot. Like buy a new hard drive, disconnect the old one, put it in slave, then see if you can just read the data on it. Or get a buisness to manually retrieve the date, but thats expensive I think. Oh well, good luck, reformatting is a pain, but its worth it.

no... just no...

you're not using the mac os to tune the car or play a game if you are booting the windows partition. You have two different OS's that are running separately from each other and while the other is not.

That is unless you have bootcamp installed... but I sure as hell wouldn't trust that to run any serious or important programs such as those used to tune vehicles.
