360 issue, and what MS told me today...

Ok, so 360 #2 is now dead.... red ring o' death...

So, being as that I wanted MS to take care of this (that, and my gamestop warrenty was up), I decided to call the fine folks on XBox support, and get an RMA for the unit. Well, besides useless menu navagation, their customer service reps were very unhelpful (well, the first one. the second one was only needed since the RMA couldnt be processed at first due to network upgrades).

So, troubleshooting the unit with the rep, going over added devices and such, he asked how everything was hooked up. Ok, fine, thats normal (at APC, we ask questions about enviornment conditions too). Well, he blamed, of all things, my componet cables. Now, these are the ones that ship with the unit, and this same configuration has been used for about 15 months.

Ive learned a bit about power surges, and the damage it can do (also, its not always right off the bat, sometimes its later on that its noticable), but for some reason, blaming the HD cables for this is just plain silly. I know there are a lot of hardware defects in the unit, and sadly, this is the only console I own, and the only one I want to own.

Anyone hear of this???

**Cliff notes: Dont like dealing with XBox support, blamed some random peice of equip that i am almost 100% sure would NOT be the cause**

how the **** does that affect the hardware inside the 360 to cause the red ring? man i'm thinking about selling my 360 and all my games and just pick up a ps3, the decision would be a lot easier if sony had more effing games.

Sadly, that might be the worst choice to make..... it sucks too, cause i have a TON of good 360 games, and most of em arent on PS3 (BIoshock and Forza to name a couple)

Hopefully, I can work something out w/ Gamestop (since I work at one), and get this taken care of....

honestly i dont know why everyone is having problems with it

my 360 was purchased off a reserve the day it came out and it still runs strong...

it has been moved with me to college on a regular tv with surge protector 1/2 the year and the rest at home on a 67 inch 1080i hd tv on a surge protector, it has been taken apart and spray painted all different colors... and is still working fine

my boy went through 2 consols like you also i just dont know the problem what i suggest is...

http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=802687

even if you have the white consol pick this one up it has updates on it from the previous modle i have... not saying the origonal doesnt work if i was buying it now i would pick that one up

good luck

360 for the win... f ps3

alot of poeple complain about the red ring of death after the updates for the games, what sucks is that if you dont have the warrantry you need to ship your xbox back to microsoft and you loose all you data on your HD

Yea, MS told me to remove everything (even my 3rd party face plate), and send it back in.

Bad news is, I cant swap it right now. Gotta wait for my store manager to get back, and he should be able to do it.

Good news is: Free HDMI upgrade.

I don't think i would buy one of those after reading the reviews on them. Apparantly they melt to the side of the xbox, and also void the warranty.
