Unlocking GSM Based Devices

Anyone know how to do this??

I currently have a T-Mobile MDA and a Samsung T509...on the T-Mobile network.

Now the whole idea of my ORIGIONAL plan was to share it between me and the woman while she was @ school in Williamsport (dont' ask).

Apparently on the otherside of the tunnel...her phone says Cingular...

Now I believe that's roaming but have not gotten a chance to call T-Mobile and confirm it. If it is...no big deal if it's not getting charged becuase its under the family-based mobile-to-mobile minuites (unlimited)...however if they are charging me the FULL $0.49 a minuite NORMAL roaming fees...lets just say I'm ****ed.

So I was wondering...if I have to bail from T-Mobile...I know I can take these two devices to someone who has coverage out there (Cingular) that's also a GSM based network.

Anyone know how to unlock these bad-boys?

Is there a program?

Can the company do it when I sign up?

Anyone konw what I'm talking about?

Help me out TST!!

I can unlock the MDA for you. The T509 is another story.

Cool...I'll let you know tomorrow if I need it or not (here's hoping no) I love the T-Mobile business package that I have.

Do you just need to flash a ROM...or is it SIM based??

Flash the ROM and Radio to an unbranded version which is the same as the XDA was launched with, its more current software too.

I thought cingular and t-mobile were sharing a lot of towers. At least they were a year or so ago when I was using cingular. I started using cingular after they bought at&t wireless and only ended up using them for a month, but during that time depending where I was my phone would say all kinds of things instead of cingular and I never got charged extra for it. It was using whatever tower it could find and depending on what tower it was it would display a different name. It would say roaming in some places, t-mobile in others and cingular most of the time.

Then again this was a while ago and things may have changed.

Just to clear some confusion...I don't think Cingular has roaming charges. I have never been charged such a thing and have been with them for over a year now. And unlocking a phone only means someone with a SIM card on a different carrier/network can use your phone.
