Exhaust...

I live in in S. Jersey and just put in exhaust cutouts on my car two days ago. My cutout fuse blew while the cutouts were open. So, i was on my way over to a radio shack to grab a new fuse when i got pulled over by an officer.

He said i was moving "rather quickly" which i didn't deny. He also pointed out that my tint was illegal. A few days before i got a ticket for the tint , which i showed to him, so he didn't give me another ticket for the tint.

Instead, he gave me a written warning for a loud exhaust after i explained to him that i was on my way to fix it. Anyway, is there a law in NJ stating what is defined as a loud exhaust i.e. decibel reading. Or is it based solely on the discretion of the officer?

Thanks for you time,
Alex

The officer can stop you for the loud exhaust on your car. Heres the NJ state law:

39:3-70 Loud, Defective or No Muffler
All motor vehicles having a combustion motor to be equipped with muffler.
Must prevent excessive or unusual noise and annoying smoke.
