1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX "Slut"

Most of you already know me and my car but I figured I would just create one of these journals since everyone else did. Basically my love for the Mitsubishi Eclipse came from watching The Fast And The Furious way back when I was a kid. I always loved the way the 2GB Eclipse looked without the ricey body kit and all the unnecessary extras. Basically for the next 8+ years I nagged my parents about how I wanted an Eclipse. In the summer of 07' I bought this beauty after finding it on Craigslist by complete luck. I had literally searched for about a year and a half on any and every for sale car site to find this one. The color caught my eye right away in the add. The Cayenne Red Pearl was a "test" color and was only used on a few hundred Eclipses. I have yet to see it on another GSX. The color is really only used on GS and GST's. So in July of 07' my Dad and I traveled to Northeast Philly and met the owner who was a real cool 25ish year old. He was upfront with everything and had receipts for every nut and bolt on the car and even had a few gas slips. The kid was very anal about the car and I'm glad he was. So for the first year of ownership the car was very reliable and really didn't have any problems. Come summer of 08' the transmissions started acting funky and was grinding into 1st and reverse. I was told when purchasing the car that it was an auto converted to a manual with a donor transmission. I took the car to JNZ Tuning and had the transmission completely rebuilt and I had an ACT 2600 and a Fidanza Lightweight Flywheel added. My previous setup was an ACT 2100 and a Fidanza Lightweight Flywheel which cracked in half from improper toqueing from previous owner. Basically other than that the car has been alright except for the water pipe cracking and my wheel cracking. How that happened I am still confused to this day? But I still talk to the previous owner weekly and he has been trying to buy the car back ever since. He only sold it to get quick cash for a downpayment on a house and he has regretted it ever since.

I pride myself in keeping a clean car and when the weather is nice (spring/summer) I keep ontop of it with a full detail once a week and another clean sometime in the week. It is my pride a joy. I could care less what track times it pulls like everyother DSM which is also broken every single week. My car is different and unique and I get compliments from everyone all the time on how clean it is. To me the comments are what fuels the desire to keep going. Everyone around here basically knows me as the "Eclipse Kid" and I'm cool with that. I'm also really one of the only local 2GB GSX's by birth (not conversion) so that is kindof nice. The car is also rust free!!

My future plans are to eventually save up for an EVO III 16G turbo, 650CC injectors, Walboro 255lph fuel pump, and an APEX'i SAFC II. Currently I am trying to purchase an OEM 2GB carbon fiber hood, an RMDSM lip, get a retint, and to suede certain pieces on my interior, and get a custom sub box.

Most recent updates are my new wheels and lug setup that is currently being installed as I type this. I also finally ordered the final pieces I need to get my FMIC on and that should be on before the Morgantown Sonic Meet.

I would like to give a lot of credit to my good friend Anthony (SLVERSUBBIEREX) as he is basically my mechanic and has graciously helped me fix the car in its bad times, and has patiently taught me a lot about cars in general. Erik at JNZ as he is very helpful and encouraging with whatever I have needed or what dumb questions I have asked him over this last year and a half. The local DSM community who has also been there and supported me with the car. I would also like to thank Bryan (Troll) himself for creating TST, because I have met a bunch of now close friends through the site and meets. And to Ryan (R_Rambo) for picking my ass up when my car was brokeded.

I was just about to say that the wheels don't really work on a D33 chassis, but then I saw that you're putting new wheels on it. Which ones did you get?

Also, just to let you know, if you plan on running an E16G, you don't need injectors as big as 650cc. 550cc injectors are perfect for a street tuned/moderate setup on a E16G. My brother is actually selling a set of RC 550cc that we ran on our Talon. If you're interested shoot me a PM.

Clean car. Nice job on keeping it super clean.

I'll have pics of the new ones up later tonight when I get the camera out of the glovebox which is currently at the shop. So until than it is on the DL. I showed a few people them earlier pre purchase.

BTW your the only person who has ever said they didn't think the wheels flowed very well. It doesn't offend me because they came with the car and never were really my thing. They were always kindof eh to me. The new ones voice my opinion a bit more. I just found it funny because everybody always loved them.

It's not that the wheels don't "flow." They are similar to stock GSX wheels. It's just that...I don't know. I can't really put my finger on it. Something just doesn't look "right" to me. I've had my 2GB Eclipse for 7 years and I always thought a nice set of 5 spokes are perfect for a 2GB Eclipse. Something like a set of FN01R-Cs. They are perfect wheels for a 2GB IMO.

Irregardless, I look forward to seeing what wheels are going to go on this car.

I'd **** it. Uh.....

Josh, I'm actually feeling the old wheels. It's not that the new ones aren't cool, but I hated the old ones so much that I grew to love them on your car, so I'm flip-floppy on the subject.

Oh, and I'm on the 20G band wagon. FP Green is win.
