Rotarychainsaw and his 7 - New wheels (well not brand new)
----------------------------- Well, I guess I'll put these up for posterity. Mods will be slowly coming as I am stuck in college right now I guess I'll start from the very beginning (a very good place to start) This was my first rx7. It was an '86 non turbo. This car is what gave me my screen name. Due to the straight pipe of an exhaust, it literally sounded like a chainsaw. It was horrible. I beat the **** out of it though and it just begged for more. There's something to be said for those non turbo rotaries. Well, I sold that car because I stumbled across my current car. The new car was a '91 turbo 2, the most baller of all second gens This was when I first got it. I liked the car, but it had problems. Most noticably was the raw fuel smell that came from under the hood when I got into the boost. I don't know if that boost leak had anything to do with the engine blowing, but that's what happened. Theres the car sitting under a tree haha Theres the engine getting rebuilt. Due to my school schedule I could only work on my car 1 day a week for like 4 months. So I put together the longblock and with the help of a friend dropped it in the car. While she was down I got some FD wheels and spacers, some defi gauges and an AEM wideband. So now she's back in business with a few extras. Just got a corksport front lip for xmas (mazdaspeed lookalike) and got that put on. Next up is installing the SAFC I got when the engine blew. I'm getting 10's on the wideband due to the 750cc secondary injectors. Gotta get a patch harness first though because I have a rule that every mod I do should be able to be reverted back to stock. After that maybe suspension or something haha. I think I liked the original rims better, but one was wobbly. Maybe I should paint those FD rims gunmetal or something. My friend says paint them all black, but I don't think I'd like that. Last edited by rotarychainsaw; 05-21-2012 at 09:57 AM. |

nice car...don't paint the rims all black. They actually look good w/ the stock color they are in right there. I def. like the fd wheels better (not just b/c i have them). I like mine...they aren't too heavy, and they are 8'' wide which helps w/ traction a good bit.

very nice ride. Keep the wheels that color and lower the car about 2in and it would look very sexy. If the wheels are bent there are places you can take them to have them straightened. The worst part about buying used wheels is that they are almost always bent.

Looks awesome man! I say keep the wheels silver also. Get that AFC on and get it tuned to low/mid 11's and have some fun!

i also say keep the wheels the way they are, it looks good.
and i personally find it so strange to see the exhaust ports on the rotor housings, for me i always see them in the intermediate housing and front and rear end plates so it throws me a curveball when i see them like this, haha! its great u got to do the build urself, whenever i pull a rotary at work i have to send the core back untouched and it makes me sad bc i like opening them up.... but i would hate to have to remove the nut holding the flywheel on...good gravy! just one question for ya, when u pulled the end plates off did all the side seals and oil selas come flinging out at you? my teacher at mazdaschool would joke with me and me doin my first rotary REBUILD and he says the side seals will fly out at me, is he just bustin balls or is it true? will the springs behind the seals have THAt much tension?! |

As far as seals shooting out, I'm gonna say that that doesn't happen. I thought all the oil sealing was done by o-rings? Maybe the corner seals shoot out, I have no clue haha. |

Looks really good! I think I met you in Aston when there was a dyno day for rx7s and 8s. Keep the wheels the color they are, looks better that way and the lip looks amazing. Did you get any port work done?
NOPSTNS- seal never fly out like you said, rebuilding a rotary is very easy. You dont even have to be that mechanically inclinced |

The ports are stock. I wanted to keep it as stock as possible (due to my college / no money situation). He gave me the free upgrades though, like that solid oil pellet thing, and the viton oil rings, and some other stuff. I can't even remember. |
