I don't think I've ever seen a thread full of so many rollback photos....haha
Seriously though, the car looks amazing. Truly an awesome build! I'm picking up a 996 in a few months but I've always wanted a 964. The styling on the 964's is work of art.

Funny you should say that. Got hit on Friday afternoon. Guy basically backed up over the hood. Need a new left fender and headlight at bare minimum. Off to the body shop today.
Which 996 are you after?

At first. Look its gonna be over 6k. This is where it gets ugly... The guide used (at least in ma) has the value at 12k. If there us more damage, which of course there us, I'm running dangerously close to the totalled threshold. Slightly terrified.
Its gonna be a fight no matter what. A beat up roller would be more than 12 grand. Hell there's 40k in the motor alone. Closest comp i could find was a 109k 90 964c2 (i have 115k). But that car has a totally untouched motor/trans. I have 12 pages worth of rebuilds and like 1gig of photo documentation into the motor and trans. That car is listed at 32k

sorry people in boston can't drive/park apparently hope they work with you since you have proof of all the time/work put in. Have you ever looked into having the car appraised?

My triumph has been appraised by a MA licensed appraiser at 18.5 which is what its insured for through Grundy. If/when i pick up a dd I'll add the car to that policy. For real. Update on the damage. Nothing underneath is messed up, so its only cosmetic.

so far its a 6k accident. probably wont go up too much more.
im in a tough spot. financially, ive already overspent on the car. a concourse level 964 is worth like 45k max today. obviously the turbo RSA RS and Speedster are in another category. so finances aside. heres where im at- option 1. take the insurance money and run. fix what needs to be fixed, and just drive the damn thing. option 2. option 1 + the right fender and blending the door. so this means essentially the entire front end is being sprayed through the doors. 1/2 3/4 of the car will be brand new, but not perfect. the car currently has bad tape lines and overspray on some trim in places. other spots have trim that has snunk over the years, and there are some very thing paint spots, especially in the roof. theres also some typical bubbling along the windshield by the drivers side. very common on 964. glass out repair needed. this option would probably be a few grand on top of the insurance bill. i wouldnt bother with the rust issues just yet. option 3- full on restoration. order all new trim and gaskets, glass out repsray or color change. at this point changing color doesnt even matter as its all being done. either way i wont drop the motor as a black engine bay is not a problem for me no matter what color i choose. do all the way past the door jams and have a totally painted correct car. we are talking 12-15k in addition to the insurance claim. could be more . if i go this route, its getting a new color. id be wasting my time if i didnt choose a new color. if i got back a black car, id be a little let down. colors i currently want are mexico blue, mint green, Grand Prix white, unnamed dark non-metallic gray

option 1.
repaint it after owning it a few years and falling in love with it.

because i cant ever leave well enough alone, im leaning towards option 2.
paint the whole front end and blend both doors. replace the broken headlight assembly and the good one with a set of H4s ( upgrade from H5 and allows for a HID solution should i want one) i think this is the best of both worlds, and from a economic standpoint it works for me today. at least, thats how im feeling today. if it all matches well, i can love the patina of the car as it is. i honestly didnt have an issue with it before except for the thin paint spots ant the front bumper which needed to be painted anyway. the H4 will be a nice upgrade as they look better, were the european oem light, and have a better light output than the h5s from what i understand. new hood crest i just got will look great too.

I'm picking up a 2002 996 carerra cabriolet off my father next month. My good friend Iniel from second gear performance in Stroudsburg PA rebuilt the motor two years ago. It came with the X51 performance package, forged internals, and it was bored out to a 3.89L during the rebuild. It's a blast to drive. My only complaint is I wish it was a coupe instead of a cab.

Nice looking 996. Motor sounds better with the top down.
Looks like its gonna be over a month by the time its back in one piece. A fender from Germany is gonna be three more weeks
