Lesser charge perhaps?

I apologize in advance if you've covered this question is past threads.

What is the proper channel to try to get a ticket reduced to a lesser charge? I received a speeding ticket on the way to work today and I would like to see if I can get the ticket reduced and hopefully have a lower fine. Am I to simply call the DA's office? What do you recommend? Thank you.

Did you get this ticket in NY? If so I'm not sure of the charge that would be used to reduce your fine or if the State allows it. Your best bet is to plead not guilty and talk with the prosecutor about a guilty plea for a lesser charge. the Worst he can say is no you change your plea and pay the fine for speeding.

Thank you for the response. Yes, this was in NY state. Now, do I have to plea not guilty first then wait a bit and give them a call or do I need to speak to them in person? I'm just trying to understand the sequence of events. And I agree, the worst that can happen is they say and I'm no worse off than I am now. Thanks again.

1st you have call and plea not guilty to the charge you will be given a court date. On that date you ask to speak to the prosecutor (DA) ask if you can plea to a lesser charge. After that its up to the prosecutor and maybe the officer who wrote the summons to agree on a lesser charge.

Good Luck
