Help!! More Issues...

Saturday:

Started my car up this morning and it was fine. Got about 1/2 mile down the road:

1. The battery light came on
2. The emergency brake light came on.
3. The car will not let me turn, (I have to really really force the wheel).

Ugh. Any advice about whats going on? It did get pretty cold last night. I let the car warm up before driving it this morning. 2004 Outback..

Monday: Replaced idley pulley, new belt, new bolt. Car ran fine. All issues went away.

Tuesday: Drove car normally, about 100 milesish. Driving home, the car starts the same exact issues as above. Luckily, made it home. Open hood, a different pulley is now off and broken. WTF is going on???

Just talked to Keith. He said that you serpentine belt probably snapped. The belt is right up front so you should be able to see if something is wrong. Tug on it, if it's loose than that's your issue.

I took a look right before you posted. One of the belts is off.

Sigh.

a lot of cars the brake light will come on when the charging system isn't working properly, change the belt and it SHOULD go away

It could possibly be the serpintine belt (sp) which is the whole belt.

and you are confusing her even more.

her H6 Subaru runs 1 belt for the entire system. And even on the 2 belt cars the power steering belt drives the alt as well ;) So its an alt/ps belt and an a/c belt

looks like you need a new idler pulley. It most likely froze, locked up and threw the belt.

It sounds like something is out of alignment in your belt system.

A nut/bolt may have backed out on the Alt, Steering Pump or Crank, if so, and not re-tightened the pulley will wobble and through the belt. One or a number of you idlers or items powered via the belt maybe getting bad barrings. ( most likely not barrings ...you'd hear then shrieking! ) ......If you have a good trustworthy garage and explain the situation they can check under the hood for this in a few moments.....most likely no charge

GOOD LUCK!
