Car Of The Month: Jun '08 - boostedfury

Car Of The Month: Jun '08
boostedfury’s 2005 SRT-4

TST: Thanks for sharing your car with us Dante, and congratulations on being car of the month. Tell us a little bit about what got you into cars.
Dante: Well my interest really started when I was fifteen and my dad took me to a local cruise night. I learned so much because my dad was so knowledgeable. He had some badass cars in his day too, like a 69 Stingray, a GTO, and a Monte Carlo. Once he started teaching me, and I heard the rumble of those V8’s, I was hooked.

TST: So hooked on V8’s that you bought a four cylinder turbo?
Dante: Haha, yeah. Well it is an upgrade from my last car.

TST: What was your last car?
Dante: It was my first car, 2001 Cavalier. Red, two door, no power anything, engine included, haha. It had a fart can and some graphics on the side that some TST members believed was depicting something vulgar but i guess you had to see it.

TST: I think we catch your drift. Speaking of other TST members, who told you about TST?
Dante: Well I met a bunch of local guys in the Ridley/Springfield area one night, and they told me to join up so that I can see when the other meets are and stuff. So I did.

TST: Glad you stayed around. What is your SRT built for? Drag, shows, daily driving?
Dante: At first she was going to be my drag bitch. But then reality set in and I realized that with it being my only car, that was not a very smart idea. I decided that I really want decent street numbers and I want it to place well in local shows.

TST: What numbers are you shooting for?
Dante: I would like to have 320-350WHP, but that means a lot more work.

TST: Did you know you wanted the SRT-4 as soon as it came out, or did you just find this one for a good price?
Dante: Hahaha, that's actually kind of funny that you ask. It was July 4th weekend back in 2005, and my Dad and I went down to the automall. He was the one that found it and said, "Hey Dant, this car looks pretty sporty", and I turned to him and said “eww Dad it's a Neon!" Months later after research, I realized what the car could do, and in my opinion, it already had a sleek look in stock form, so I went with it. The rest, as they say, is yet to be written.

TST: That’s pretty funny. A neon was certainly an upgrade from the Cavalier. Have you done all of the work on the car?
Dante: I have installed every bolt on, suede accent, and I even did some paint work, all with the help of some close friends. The only thing I did not do was the tune, because I am not at that level yet where I trust myself to tune my daily driver.

TST: Well after your epic loss to a Civic in the 96.5 Philly Auto Show competition, what is next to assure it's win next year?
Dante: I’d like a CF lip, and I want to fix the hood and paint it. Also I am planning to put some more power down, and get more suede accents in the interior. But I don’t think all of this will happen anytime soon, money is tight.

TST: You said you are a full-time student, how do you manage to mod your car with school all the time?
Dante: Well I have a job, but it takes a lot of self-control and saving. But I like modding my car, I don’t have a problem spending the money as long as I have it. Being in debt over it is not a good idea.

TST: How does your girlfriend feel about all the money you put into your car? Is she supportive of your hobby?
Dante: Umm, (Dante Laughs) well… she has been beyond supportive in every way, shape and form. She just tries to look out for me with regards to spending and making sure I put essentials first before going into more debt with car mods. But that doesn't fully stop me from ordering parts monthly. It's also rough when I have meets three times a week and every weekend!

TST: What is your next car? How bout your dream car?
Dante: I want to keep the SRT-4 for as long as I can. Before my father passed away this was something that we shared, and I want to be able to share this car with my son someday if I ever have one. It means a lot to me. But a gas saving daily driver wouldn’t hurt. As far as a dream car, I love the Audi R8. All black, tinted windows, turbo and some ballin’ rims… I would die. I love the way they sound.

TST: If you have a son, are you going to pass it on to him? Or are you going to help him with his own build?
Dante: By all means, I would love to have a son some day, and would be very happy to share the SRT with him. I want him to experience the joys I have had by being in the car scene, as well as the many great people I have met through various meets and cruise nights. I will tell him that his grandpop once drove the SRT and helped work on it, and now he can share in that special bond this car holds with me! Hopefully we can continue to build it up, and I can take him to shows with the SRT and we can share quality time and hopefully start winning some trophies!

TST: I hope you have a son someday so that you can do that, the SRT has a lot of nostalgia to you. You mentioned that you attend a lot of meets and shows, one that comes to mind is the annual West Chester BBQ that you put together. How did it go this year? It seems like every West Chester meet brings out more and more new members.
Dante: In year 2 of doing the Annual Ridley Creek Cookout/Baseball game, we gained a ton more people as well as many supporting vendors. It was great to see people we have not seen in some time, and just hang out and have some fun. In the years to come, I hope to further expand it to be right before Memorial Day weekend, and include a raffle and prizes, even more food, customized T-shirts, stuff like that. I want this meet to help spread the word about TST and give forum members something to look forward to as spring ends and the start of summer bares down on us.

TST: Thanks again for talking about it and letting us take some photos. Do you have any “thank you”’s or shout-outs to anyone?
Dante: First of all of course thanks to TST for the chance to be car of the month. I want to give a shout out to my West Chester meet crew, 15-15 you know who you are. And last but certainly not least my dad for showing me the way and getting me into cars.
