CS5 Illustrator on Mac Help, Please!

Hey all, I have been having problems with illustrator and I have tried every way to fix it. I have CS5 and I'm running the latest Mac software. I have worked with illustrator before at my school so I know exactly how to use it and everything, but they had all the panels up and when I try to do that, I can't find any panels that I need.

Here's what it looks like when I first start it up:

Pretty standard to me, here's when there's a new window for a project:

Notice there are absolutely no panels and it's just blank. When I try to add panels and such here's what comes up:

There's none that I need, absolutely none. Am I missing something here or is something really wrong? At school that window bar is filled with all of the panels. Do I need to download the panels or have plug-ins?

Thanks in advance for any help

no it's the real thing, does it matter that it's a student edition? I don't think it should
