DDG-65 USS Benfold/San Diego HERE I COME!

Hey everyone! As you know (maybe), I've been in the U.S. Navy for over a year now going to school for computer automated weapon systems and electronics in Chicago, IL. Well, yesterday was a HUGE day for me. I FINALLY got to choose what school I go to next (#1 in my class) and what my first ship/permanant duty station will be. I chose the MK-160 Gun Computer System which is a 5 month long school in Virginia Beach VA, then I will be aboard DDG-65, the USS Benfold (a destroyer) stationed in San Diego, CA for 3 years. I'm super stoked for my sign-on bonus, my school and all the adventures that await me in the Pacific Fleet! Wish me luck!

i had fun when i was stationed in San Diego. Your going to be docked at 32nd Street Navel base. You'll see the aircraft carriers stationed at Coronado Island (thats where i used to be at).

Oh yeah, downtown san diego and gas lamps district = get drunk fun.

Ahhh the Benfold! I was on that ship for 2 years before my West Pac and Sea Swap. Great ship! We flew out to the gulf and left the Benfold behind. Picked up the USS Higgins sailed around for about 3 months and flew back in to take over the John Paul Jones. Pain in the azz trying to learn a new ship with all of its problems. You will love a destroyer!

I am 6"3 and the head room was not bad at all. The ship rocks side to side only and not bad at all.

You have any questions let me know. I only did 4 years as an Engineman (EN3).

Oh and do me a favor and check the engine room ceilings for my p0rn!

As others have said, the Gas-lamp is a drunken fun place to be. You'll soon understand why I want to move to SD.

When I was in the navy 4 years ago I was on DDG-94 which was a precom

I saw the seals a few years back then they started to disappear. When I was there apparently there was a seal that was in a Navy training program but had escaped. Whenever a navy pontoon (sp?) boat would drive by this one seal would get up, dive in the water, and hide until it had passed. Thought it was pretty damn funny.

Sooooo Mom just emailed me at work all freaked out that the ships orders are for the Middle-east. I told her to chill out so you might want to give her a call lol.

wow its cool to find someone on tst with prior navy service, let alone sailing on the same ship as me! it's going to be my first ship, so i'm not even sure what questions i should be asking...i'm kinda just goin with the flow...

what countries would be included on a Western Pacific/Middle East deployment and how am i getting there if i finish my "C" school a month after the ship leaves?

You mean you finish school when the ship is going out on deplyment? Then they will prob fly you out to a port like Baharain (sp?) or something like that. I have been deplolyed twice and here is where I have been between 2002-2006.

Singapore
Guam
Seychelles Island (sp?)
South Korea
Baharain (sp?)
Jeba ali (no clue how to spell it but in the United Emigrates)
Kuwaitt

Oh and during our Sea Swap I was in the Cypress airport and Ireland airport

Short trips about a week or two not on deployment to:

Hawaii like 5 times
Mazatlan, Mexico
San Francisco

and more I cannot remember.

Pacific fleet is the way to go!

we'll i'm going to be back in PA from june 3rd till the 12th...then i'm off to my C school in VA...then straight to CA...so hopefully we can meet up sometime...i'm tryin to pick up a new car so i can head home on the weekends till my deployment...

I definitely feel like I picked the right orders...Virginia Beach to San Diego to the Western Pacific....can't get much better...

oh and any insite on the life of an FC3 on the benfold? did you know any? are they all computer nerds? so on and so forth...
