CDL-B road test vehicles?

Ok, maybe you guys can help me with this. I've just recently (today actually) gotten my CDL-B permit for the second time in PA in the last few years. Now the reason why I let it expire was that I could not find any resource that was reasonable for me to rent a commercial vehicle (tri-axle or similar) for me to take the pre-trip and road test with. Now the catch 22 here is that most companies will not hire you without your CDL license, and most will not allow you to rent a vehicle from their fleet due to insurance reasons. Is ANYONE out there aware of a place that rents commercial vehicles (a bus would work too) for a reasonable price? I've seen some places that are charging $600+ for a 4-6 hour rental period, and that is an utterly insane price to pay for something i'd need for a max of 2-3 hours. Anyone out there have a bead on someplace I could rent something for this exam so I can get it out of the way? I would be able to furnish my own CDL licensed driver (class B driver for 10+ years) and would be able to pay for the rental (just not 600$ lol. that's a tad out of my price range at the moment). Anyone out there with a hook up?

Just an update on this thread. Called duvall bus service out in west grove, they wanted $400 pass or fail, but I have to supply my own vehicle. So back to square one. If anyone wanted to start a business, this is a nitche market. If only I had the money lol

I took my test at 1st student on rt 100 across from car sense in Exton. If you have not found a place, give them a call. They offered to let us use the bus instead of a concrete truck.

LCCC has a CDL program near allentown PA i believe you take the class and get your license at the end of it. not sure of price, just see the trucks driving around town

See about renting a daycab tractor... essayist thing you will ever need to take a CDL-B test, I have my class A, If you rent one give me a PM and I'll spot you in it to the test place that way they wont ask any questions.

Find a local construction company (small business) with a single axle dump truck that had a gvwr over 26,001. Prob be happy to loan the truck out and make a quick buck. Plus there easier then driving a pickup lol. I got my class A through a port o potty company in limerick I used a single axle pump truck and towed there comfort station trailer behind it. Trailer was over 10k so I got my class a that way I worked for them though.. Good luck my friend

Hey guys great info here. Now my only concern about the day cab tractor is that alone they are under 26, 001 lbs. I'm looking at a few options, but penske seems like the best bet to me, as I don't really know any companies that would be willing to rent one to me. Ill keep an eye on this thread, thanks guys!

Now how much did the whole deal run? I've found between 3-450 $ for just the test, but rental vehicle can be just as much. Can you shed any light on this?

Doesn't matter what the truck weighs as long as the gvwr is above 26,001 .. My Peterbilt tri axle weighs 25,700 empty but is rated at 73,280 so it's cdl. Get it?

Hey guys, called penske and found a 26 foot box truck with air brakes for about 175 $ out the door fpr the entire day (not including mileage) plus I've got a test date at duvalls for dec. 3rd. So good lookin out with the info guys, I owe you one

The company I worked for paid for my CDL training so I don't know the price. I remember being offered a bus for my test. Call them and let them know you need to take the driving test and ask for a price on using the school bus to test in.

Does it matter what state they have for a license? My dad got his in PA, but now has a DE license. Also where do they need to go? I saw under your avatar you have Wilmington, so if that's the case I can talk to him and see if he can meet up with you in Delaware. I know he wont go super out of his way though because he will have to take a few hours off work to do it. PM so I see the details because I don't always read every thread on here.

I don't believe it does. As long as it and the med card are valid. I'm looking for someone who can ride along witb me from about 7-12 that day. Just to pick up tge truck, drive to the test, take said test, and ride back to return the truck. Gonna be a lot of standing around, so bring a magazine or a game. Again, pay will be included, plus ill probably buy them bfast ontop of it since they are most likely gonna have to miss work for this. Pay will be $150 for the five hours ($20 an hour ain't bad lol). So spread the word, even someone in between jobs, this is a great opportunity to make some easy cash.

If anyone know any CDL holders looking to make some quick money let me know. I'm about to post up an ad on CL, but would rather not have to worry about if i'm going to have to shoot someone I dont know for trying to rob me.
