PA title was sold to me and notarized with my mom as a co-owner. Can I reg it to me?

I wasnt paying attention when I bought my Jetta and when the notary lady did the sale (Not the title transfer) she put it in my name with my moms as the co-owner. Now I find out my insurance wont insure a car that is co-owned.

WTF.

Can I title the car in JUST my name and then register it in just my name, and therfore insure it in JUST my name?

All the notary did was witness the sale and stamp her notary seal on it. I tried calling local notaries and none of them have any idea what I am talking about lol. I havent had a chance to stop into a office and show them.

Thanks guys!

dunno. I assume you can go back to the notary and tell them they made a mistake with putting her name on it and that they need to fix it... or else... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gmzV6y7W6g

Go back to the notary with your mother, and have her "sell" you the car for a dollar. Then register and insure.

I had to do that when I graduated and had to open my own insurance policy for a car that my mother co-signed for originally. (was also in PA)

Don't have her sell it to you for a dollar because the state will want to know why you purchased a 15K car for a buck. They will want their tax money, and they will come look for it.

A family member can donate a car to another family member. I did it with my Aunt and my brother, and a donation means no tax. You will have to pay some fees though.

That has got to be the biggest load of BS I have ever heard in my life. My car is in my name and my grandfathers name and I had no problem getting insurance what so ever.

I have esurance. Title for my car is in my name and my grandfathers name. Car is registered in my name and insured in my name. I dont have any problems and have had geico and esurance and neither of them gave me problems. I still stick to my statement that what they are telling you is complete BS!!

my srt has always been in mine and my mom's name and insured solely in my name.

What happens when a husband and wife buy a car that is in both their names? they get turned down?.... i don't think so

Went to a different Notary today and got my own Erie policy. Everything worked out!

Good call guys.

Be on the look out for my skanky Jetta!
