Yep, I concur. I’m hoping it feels better with a stock front sway and stock springs. Gonna do some cheap STI control arms to add some caster to hopefully help with stability.

Also, slowly turning the fozz into a merc

Flip Outback engine going together.

Oh, and scored a spare E30M3 trans for $300. SO stoked about that.

I can’t decide if I want to put these on the non-M E30 to convert it to 5 lug the proper way or put these on the M3.

Thanks!!

This journal has become a bit of a life documentation over the years and....I've been busy.... I rented a space (it's not fancy) and bought out a BMW parts warehouse and have been trying to inventory everything and get stuff transferred over and listed. I've been working towards full time car stuff for a while, and this is enough for me to pull off the band aid.

This is one floor of parts..... out of three.

Thank you gents! This has been a long time in the making, and it all worked out “just right”. I have a lot of work ahead, but the work ahead isn’t me trading my time directly in exchange for a paycheck, but rather hopefully an investment of my time into the bigger picture.

It's so stressful how much of a mess my garage is.... the bonus of the workspace is that I can transfer ALL parts business related things out of my home-garage and focus on organization and cleanliness here- something that I have failed miserably at over the past few years.

Also, amidst trying to move and inventory these parts I was able to finish assembling the SOHC Subaru engine. Used Gates timing components and with an OE water pump since it was the Gates water pump that failed on the Forester.

Also finally got my 7lb flywheel for my Bimmer engine build after it got taken captive by USPS for a month.

Thank you!!

My latest $400 acquisition is a late model 325i coupe. It needs an engine/trans, of which I have many options, and the body is solid.

I've been saying I wanted a hoopty to rip around and autocross forever, and this seems like the candidate. I'm going to toss an engine in it and see how I feel about it. Worst case it becomes a flip. Was thinking super basic- regular resealed engine/trans, sticky tires on some used light wheels, OE upgraded swaybars from a convertible (have), and some H&R race springs/konis that I'll search for used.

Thanks, man, I certainly will! Baha I'll just find an M3 for everyone.

Some updates. I've been working like mad on the parts and parts cars so I don't have much, but there are a few developments.

The '87 325iS that I worked on a few pages back ended up in my possession as well. I'm manual swapping, r134 conversion and a few other "tidy" items and it's going on Cars&Bids.

Untitled by Bobbie Morrone, on Flickr

I sold the M3 KWs because it's pointless for me to spend $4K to tear apart a perfectly new set of GCs and other suspension components for an extra lug.

3.1L progress:

Custom Teflon Crank Scraper came in!

Untitled by Bobbie Morrone, on Flickr

Got my AAF Baffle welded into a minty pan I was saving for this car

Untitled by Bobbie Morrone, on Flickr

And whodwho's custom Megasquirt in the stock ECU case showed up. Still need to buy a wideband.

Untitled by Bobbie Morrone, on Flickr

Still sitting pretty.

Anyway, until next time.

My buddy Carlos came over to test fit some wheels and ended up leaving with a car instead.

When I originally installed my Z3 steering rack upgrade, I didn't install the modified firewall plate to move the grommet. I bought a modified firewall plate, ground my firewall down a bit further to accommodate for the plate and moved steering linkage, applied a few coats of POR15, seam sealed around the plate, and reinstalled the grommet!

Also, when I installed the crack free dash, it was from a non-airbag car, which has different mounting provisions for the under-dash-knee panel. I was never happy with my solution for mounting the "airbag" under dash panel, so I converted it over to a non-airbag under dash panel, and splurged a bit for a new OE piece. I still have to install the non-airbag bottom column trim because they're different, but this whole project was satisfying.

I finally got around to installing my ski-pass rear seat with rear head rests, as well. A nice little upgrade.

Going to test fit my crank scraper from IR this weekend and get to tossing the engine in the car. I'm going to break the motor in with the stock ECU on pink tops, and then once that's all gravy I'll switch over to megasqurit. I've got the "rabbit wiring solutions" MS kit, an innovate LC1, and then the whodowho MS unit. Should be interesting.

I finally got around to finishing Linda's gauge cluster. I used flat trim rings from my brother, which I love compared to the typical angled ones that people use, and he also put batteries in a spare SI board for me.

I toyed around with red needles for far too long to mock the look of the M3 cluster, and ultimately decided that I will not do red needles unless I eventually find an E30 M3 cluster (have been looking for ages and they're all $1500+ now).

Linda's mpg gauge has always been broken, so I swapped my 7k faceplate onto a 5k gauge with a working mpg unit (whole gauge is the same outside of the faceplate).

I polished my cluster lens with some 105 and threw it back together- I am very happy with the outcome.

I also took some photos of my buddies super low mile MK2 Supra over the weekend for Bring a Trailer. I am excited to see what his car brings- it is so clean. Figured you guys may enjoy!
