There isn't a lot of adjustments that can be tuned by using just the maf translator. I suggest he get dsmlink to get it tuned especially if its "built".
Whats the setup on the car?

dont know all the specifics of it but basically everything done, built motor...pistons, rods, complete head build with oversized valves, aftermarket springs ect. Big turbo not sure the size . I can get all the info if it helps, but he was talking about getting it tuned and i figured i would post it up here.

I could tune the car on the street or on a dyno...I know a few local dynos. I would like to hear the whole setup, mainly the fuel system/turbo (what kind, brand, compressor, and turbine wheel)..

If all he has for tuning is a MAFT, then its gonna be a nightmare.
Since the temperature compensation is taken out of the airflow measurement, hot/cold/humid days play havoc with them, he is gonna need something else to supplement it, especially if it is modified. You won't be able to get your fuel trims right with that thing. I wouldn't have him waste too much time with just that, tell him to get DSMlink, flatline the MAFT, then go from there. Easy to tune, plenty of internets support, and easy to install. As an alternate, he can sell the MAFT setup, and put it towards a DSMlink setup. The 2g MAF flows plenty of air for 95% of people. I have the MAFT on my car, and will be selling it as soon as I upgrade my DSMlink, Then I'll get a 2g MAF, and setup the speed density.

As for tuning, is he just looking for a dyno shop so he can tune it himself? Or is he looking for a place to tune it for him? We have a pretty good hook up with an AWD dyno shop that we can probably get you a decent deal. Shoot me a PM if you are interested.

He needs way more than MAF-T with 750s. I wouldn't even turn the car on until he gets AT LEAST SAFC (crap), although I'd tell him to go straight for Link. It's the definitive way to tune DSMs. MAFT isn't really even a tuning device on these cars truthfully.

I'm partial to the Evo 8 or 98/99 DSM Ecus. It's cheaper, but has more of a learning curve.
Almost anything you want to do with an Evo 8 Ecu has been coded already. I might work on setting my SD up tomorrow. The 98/99 Ecu development is coming along and is taking many cues from the Evo setup. You could sell your MAF-T and GM MAF then buy the stuff to run one of those Ecus with the money. I sold my SAFCII for $150 and my old ECU for $75. I bought the Evo 8 Ecu for $150, the cable for $100, and the EvoScan software for $20. I already had the cable and software for logging anyways, so it was a no brainier. |

Okay, I'm curious.
Do you use the evoscan software to alter the fuel trim in the car, or do you need another program to do that? I've heard the unit is more responsive/smoother than a 1g Ecu due to the upgraded chipsets in the evo ecu, but how is it for adjustability? I ask because i have a fair amounts of modifications to my motor.

Bah, I decided to pick my fingers up off my lap, and do a little searching, here is some of what i came up with-
http://forums.evolutionm.net/ecuflas...dsm-works.html <evo 8 ecu in a 1g http://forums.evolutionm.net/ecuflas...-tune-evo.html <tuning a evo8 ecu I may just think about selling my dsmlink, I'll have ot do a little more research tho. BTW, still intersted in that trans?

The Evo Ecu runs smoother in my 2g than the stock ecu did. Apparently, the speed density conversion helps even more. I know for a fact that the Evo Ecu has been used in 1g's, 2ga's, 2gb's, and 2g's with 6-bolt swaps.
People have also ran the 1g MAF, 2g MAF, the Evo MAF, GM MAF w/ translator, and speed density with it. It's very similar to running a chip in you car, but instead of burning the hex file to a chip each time, you just flash it onto the one built in. You deal with a similar coding program. |

It was done before RRE, but there aren't too many details. I bought mine around at the end of June last summer. Since then, the swap has expanded to several different platforms. Less supply + more demand means the prices doubled. Tough luck. I haven't priced them out since I bought mine. So I hadn't noticed the price increase. Sorry for posting DSMTuner links, but that's where the info's at. This is 2g stuff, but a lot is similar. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/tuni...-2g-works.html <--- Evo ECU in a 2g Thread http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/arti...ual-guide.html <--- Install guide I wrote. if he's got all those mods done then he needs to ditch the translator and just get ecm link or even lite. Then he could just use the gm maf and plug it directly into ecm link and tune that way, plus from what I've heard, trying to get a translator to tune with anything that big is an absolute nightmare, much less just trying to use the translator ALONE. Most people will use the translator to get rid of the restrictive stock MAS and then zero out the translator and use an safc to tune with. I was gonna do that but decided I would just rather sell the translator and use the more than capable stock MAS
