I'm going to buy the Ultimate version when I get my second or third paycheck from this new job. I really want to support MS since they did an excellent job with this and deserve my hundreds of dollars. I can ride this RC until June 2010, though.

There is no real reason for the average person to purchase Ultimate though. If you get it free, that's good, but otherwise save your money and just get the Home. It's not the same as XP Home vs. Professional, or Vista Home vs. Professional vs. Ultimate. Home is everything you need.
Got an email address that ends in .edu? If so, you can get 7 for only $29.

I want Ultimate for the bit locker among other things.
I ran the encryption on my USB drive that bit locker put there through a few algorithms at work last week and even they couldn't crack it.

That's a good reason then. You are clearly not an average Windows user if you even know what Bitlocker is. I just hate when my friends say that they are gonna get the ultimate because it's "the best" version out there. It's a waste of $ for most people.

I beta'd Win7 b7000. Ran 10x smoother than my retail Vista U. More stable too, and it was only a god damn beta.
I hated having to go back to vista.

Windows 7 is MUCH more stable then even Vista was. I have a retail copy, due to my company being a MS partner. So not counting the Beta versions of W7, I've been using the legit one for over a month now. It's extremely stable. It is faster then Vista, because it was made to be that way. This OS can be installed on a fanless 1ghz processor and still run without any problems. We've tested it on some our equipment here at work, including installing it on the ATOM processors. Runs amazing.
I would defintely recommend W7, and if you can, install Office 2010 as well. Runs wonderful. Last edited by 05GT; 10-05-2009 at 04:07 PM. |

It asked for the key code or whatever, but when that came up i just hit "OK" and it went through the install.

Ugh, I'm sorry. I should have mentioned that I went from Vista to W7, so it worked for me. I suggested getting a large slave hard drive to store all that stuff to. I bought a 1.5TB spare hard drive for all my media and it is the best computer investment I've made specially since I run many OS's and sometimes have to clear the hard drives when testing linux distros that corrupt the GRUB loader.
