90/91 FWD Talon pops out of 5th?

My neighbor just picked up this talon real cheap but it pops out of 5th. Ive heard something about 2-36mm nuts that come loose on the side on the trans/end of shaft? Just looking for a confirmation on this. I can build Subaru gearboxs like the back of my hand but never had one of these things apart so... any info would be great.

try this---

Go to the drivetrain section and look under "shifter movement fix"
Also, make sure the brackets that attach the shifter cable to the tranny case are good and tight.

i know my car is newer...but the same thing happened to me last summer a couple times....it turned out i was just low on fluid....just have your buddy go out and buy 2 quarts of 75w90 gear oil and put new in...there is a drain plug on the side and the fill plug is in the front, not hard at all

i say worn shiftr cables. mine used to do it and the nut for reverse was tight . It's easy to take off to check . I removed my shifter plate bushing's and she don't pop out no more .I didn't think it was fully in gear, and it looked like my shifter cables had been hacksawed before so I was out of adjustability on the threads at the shifter to lengthen them to get it fully in the gear. How are 1st and 3rd gear do you have to hold up on the shifter at all ?

Don't know if this applies to these cars, but I know in Hondas if you have low fluid, 5th goes first if you run low on fluid since it's highest in the case.
