makes me feel better i just picked up a ej205 longblock with a spun bearing for free. build it over the winter(the way subaru should have over) then get it installed and wont have to worry bout spinning another bearing destroying a piston.

Ryan, I completely believe you on this but in reading through the thread it kinds seems this thread makes it seem worse than it is. I'm sure that this is a problem and I am kinds concerned. My 04 has a little over 70k on it now. And reading all these threads about engine failure is kinda scary. What goes into doing a better oil pickup and what would it cost if I brought it to A1320? Cuz if it's kinda easy I'd like to do it but idk anything about it.

Also. What years of 2.5s seem to have it the worst?

I have close to 70k on my 06 wrx, been all over the Mountain roads in Colorado, drove it pretty hard since 14k....no problems at all. I am lowered, have bigger turbo, and the only thing that has been done to the car at a large expense (having some shop do the job) was the clutch.
I know of one person who blew up the trans in an 06 wrx after only 4000 miles, without any mods on the car, but has had no problems since.

Drain the oil, pull the pan off, pull the oil pickup off and replace it with a reinforced one they sell online and put it all back together.

Not even joking, I've had well over 10 "problems" for my one new 08 vehicle alone. Everything from seat frames breaking under my gigantic 180lb ass, to my cd player needing repair, to my moon roof failing, to the alignment going out almost as soon as I got the car, to my TPMS NEVER working correctly even after every piece+part being replaced, to my oil consumption problem (going to need at least pistons), etc etc etc. I could go on forever. I have a shoe box for my repair slips. The guys at work with Ford's, Audi's, and BMW's give me sh*t constantly about it. . . . next time I think I'm going to try my hand at an Evo

Land Rover doesn't surprised me much being at the bottom. Read recent reviews on reliability. Apparently, they hired a team full of Helen Kellers.

For a motor in good health, what is everyones feelings on just dropping in pistons before further mods? I am looking into and i cant find any information on what kinda miles should you not drop in pistons and do a whole tear down.

Nothing tears me up more than this war. I hate seeing scoobies coming in body bags. Someone must stop the AP from suicide bombing EJ25's....

How many more EJ25's must we lose before owners pull out the AP?
