Why does Firefox...

Ok so I've been noticing lately that Firefox seems to make my lap top run really hot. Its only when I have firefox running, then when i close it, it stops running so hard and cools down a bit. any ideas?

It's becoming more of a CPU hog. Try less extensions, or just using Chrome.

Firefox is a resource hog. Every tab runs as an independent browser. Ugh. Try going lite browser(k-meleon), Google Chrome.

open the task manager and watch the cpu usage for all of your running apps when you open firefox and when you close it. Its possible that there is something like a virus scanner going crazy, or maybe you have a firefox plugin that is causing issues.
If you see firefox (or some other app) taking up 100% cpu load, when the browser is just sitting idle on a normal web page, then you know you have a problem.

My moms windows XP laptop had a very similar problem recently. I tracked it down to a bug with the windows automatic update feature. Once I disabled automatic updates, the problem went away.. (they kept spiking at 100% cpu and making the fans kick on full blast, in turn slowing the rest of the system down.)

I thought that was was chrome did. If one tab crashes, it doesnt crash the whole browser because everything is run as a separate process.

Yeah, every browser using netscape's base code with tabs works like that. I was just making it clear that it is a hog and every tab is its own browser to accentuate that fact. The TST page in Chrome takes 10,000kb, a more complicated page like IGN.com takes 59,000kb. I've seen TST take as much as 65,000kb in Firefox 3.

Chrome annoys me. I went with Opera a while back and haven't looked back. So minimalistic yet has all the features you want. The originators of the Speed Dial too.

I use Opera and Safari, too, but only when checking my code when programming.
