Smoked tails.... on a police vehicle

So I know a couple of friends who have been pulled over for tinted tails and I am not here to refute that they are unsafe, too dim, etc. However, I have recently seen a Ford Expedition undercover police truck rolling around Montgomeryville with smoked headlights and taillights.

It has 3% swat tint, LED's by the plate, blacked out police issue wheels, etc. I have also seen it at one of my mom's friend's houses who is a police officer, so I am pretty positive it is a police vehicle.

My question here is basically the legality of it - I know police vehicles are above the law to a certain extent in order to be able to do their jobs safely and effectively but do smoked lights really fall into that same realm? Is there a double standard here?

Feel free to ignore me/lash out if I am out of line

So you're not exactly sure if it's an actual police vehicle? Any chance it could be a volunteer firefighter or something?

If it is, sounds like more of an issue that has to be taken up with that department.

I recently found out 100% that it is a police vehicle. The headlights, fog lights, tails, and third brake light are all tinted. The brake lights are super dark the headlights and fog lights are comparable to 30% tint or so. I don't have tinted tail lights and have never been in trouble for it but several of my friends in the area do and have, and I was recently thinking of tinting the taillights on my trailblazer so maybe I will try to get to the bottom of it. Thanks for the input
