Corvette C5R

Whats up all, new member here and and wanted to take a sec. and throw up some shots of the car I've built so far. I'm still working on replacing the headlights, brakes (carbon ceramic), wheels, and a few other upgrades. The car is a fully functional, hand built, conversion from a C5 coupe to a street legal version of the C5R that was raced by GM.

nice, what motor is in it?

Also, that front diffuser/splitter looks awsome and appears to be molded to the existing front bumper. How did you do that?

Cool idea. Looks good. I think yellow would look a lot better in true C5R fashion. I'm hoping you've got a 427. Gotta do something about the wheel gap, too.

Thanks all .. The current motor is a slightly worked LS1, in wait for a LS6 that I'm picking up and working to a 427. So far it's had the computer has been re-programmed, cold air intake, magnaflow exhaust system (working on potentially side exhaust), short throw shift kit, upgraded rear, racing suspension, & lowering. I haven't put a ton of work into this motor as I intend to replace it. I've done just enough to beef it up a bit. As for the wheel gap I plan to address that once I have new wheels on the car, It will also be lowered again. I'm going with a black set, most likely a set of black C5 Z06 wheels. As for the front lip it is attached to the bumper because it is actually part of the bumper. most of the cars body panels were hand built and replaced. That is a new front bumper which has the lip incorporated into it. The wide mouth openeing you see in the front is an air channel that deposits air out of the vents in the hood. Having the panels made to spec. and then fit to the car took approx. 2 months. Under the hood and through through the wheel wells the air channels are functional to help reduce lift. There is also an air diffuser at the rear of the car. I also intend to lower the rear spoiler a little bit, driving on a wet highway a few days ago I was able to see how the air flows around it and I think it would be a bit more efficient lower, it's fully adjustable so that isn't a problem. I'm also thinking about doing the interior (dash panels and such) in CF. I'm still on the ropes with that one.

less looks more power, make it run like a c5r before you try to make it look like one

Wow that is really nice! I <3 C5s. Did you buy it like that? I would definintely try to garage or at least cover it. You're future mods sound good, but it looks great the way it is incase you didn't know. Side windows tinited mabye and I guess the C5R fixed lights are a must. I would say carbon ceramic brakes are a bit overkill for LS-1 power, the C5 I had stopped on a dime w/ the stocks.

Should have just said your C5 build and not your C5R. Your car will never be close to a C5R.

visually this car and the c5r will have only minor differences. this isn't a simple kit, its a new body, this car is much wider than a C5 for example. from the beginning this project was planned to be a street useable version of the c5r, it isn't nor will ever be a trailer car or drag strip car. true certain elements of the c5r are impossible for me to incorporate but on a whole when its done should be one of a kind. everything I have done and will do must be functional .. antiquate my c5r to the C6RS offered by pratt & miller since one never existed for the C5. I wanted to do the body first as it posed the biggest challenge and whether or not I continued depended on the outcome of the body conversion. I will create a build journal so people can track progress and give feedback which I appreciate.

I think it looks great. Going to be really nice when you get the power in the car to justify all of the body work. Good luck with the rest of the build.

I'm sure it's not a simple kit. Two of my friend worked at advanced composits in Harrisburg and they would make a few vett bodies for speed world challange and my other friend was in design at Pratt & Miller. He designed the rims on the C6RS and other aero parts for maximum efficiency. I'm glad you said visually because those Corvettes really aren't Corvettes. There is a little 3" X 3" piece of Corvette frame (or something ridiculous like that) that is in the race body only because it's in the rules. Good luck with the build.

oh absolutely, the c5rs were modified way beyond standard equipment. the real C5R had well over 620 hp and an electric motor attached to help drive the motor & reduce parasitic loss .. that's not practical for the street lol .. it doesn't take extreme measures to get power out of these motors and I already have great performance but there is room for more. and before you ask its all motor for this project, no turbo, sc, or juice

Yeah I've talked to the guys at ACP, I was considering using one of their kits but ended up going with a manufacturer in OR. who specifically modeled after the C5R. ACP puts out some great panels.

The car was finally completed right around the 1st of November so work is still new. It's about to go back into the shop for additional upgrades and some adjustments. I plan to take it to the Fuddruckers in Turnersville, NJ on Fri. nights when people start showing up again. I plan to have most of the work done for car show season.
