RockNRace's Turbo Sierra

remember when i said i was looking for a work truck to test some things on for my business....

welp, I came across this:

The basics:

its a 2002 GMC Sierra single cab short bed, 2wd (not sure why it has 4wd stickers)

it has a factory 5.3 V8 with Race MMI twin turbo kit installed. Engine has some sort of turbo cam and 1000cc injectors running on E85.
Trans is a medium built 4l80e with circle D billet lock up torque converter.

My plans are to remove the twins and some other of the expensive parts in exchange for one of my single turbo manifolds and less radical parts.

While the body looks nice in the pictures, it is far from that. It looks to have been cammo painted at one time and then resprayed white I am going to fix both bedsides and possibly wrap or repaint the entire truck myself to make it a bit nicer.

Anyways, Im excited and got a fairly good deal for the parts and will certainly make up on the negatives by selling off some of the more expensive parts i dont need/want.

I look forward to seeing how this turns out

so i've been busy with the truck the past few weekends.

first i built a Y-pipe for the twins and put on a 3 inch straight through muffler, dumps just behind the cab for now, but id like to bring it out to the rear bumper eventually.

I had planned to drive the truck around as is for a bit, but a canceled customer order for a log manifold got me thinking otherwise. So that fresh Y pipe was just a warm up

pulled in and removed the twins

got my goodie bag from mr sloppy himself, was much appreciated

will be running a on3 76-65 turbo, just a tad smaller than the one i had for my bmw. 44mm vs racing wastegate to keep the boost under control.

then i bolted my own kit on, little bed to the ac and it fits mint (as expected ;) )

welded in the wastegate, unsure if this location will work as well as it needs to, but its worth a shot i suppose. Id like to recirculate it into the downpipe to keep things nice and quiet. I didnt have too many other options with maintaing AC, time will tell.

Added some high temp black to finish things off for the weekend.

now im just waiting on the rest of the parts. Have a huge, black intercooler coming to hide behind the grill. also have oil/drain fittings in route as well as an AEM tru boost boost controller which i have plans to 3d print a custom HVAC vent for. I am starting to like this truck more now. I really would like this to be as clean as possible.

Haha that was quick but glad to see your own kit on there. Will you be visiting Matt for some dyno pulls once the single setup is good to go?

most definitely. I'm hoping for a solid 500hp, may turn it down a bit to ensure some life on the weaker Gen 3 engine in this truck

Oh okay, gotcha. I'm excited to see the results. It's cool that you can keep AC with your setup, too; your manifold seems really nice.

finished that little HVAC vent gauge pod. i think it turned out alright for the amount of effort.

took apart the factory vent and 3d printed a new cover plate. I did my best to open up as much area as possible so that it would still be functional.

test fit of gauge.... perfect.

after some super glue, sanding, more glue, more sanding and a bit of paint....

and finally installed back into the dash.

i have yet to decide which gauge will fill this location. I have this A/F as well as the matching Boost gauge. The other gauge will go into a custom 3d printed steering column gauge similar to this one available from autometer http://www.xtremediesel.com/images/p..._AutoMeter.jpg. But why pay $40 when you have solidworks and a 3d printer

some progress from today. finished my cross over pipe, intercooler piping, and some other small bits. I really just need to finish my down pipe, get some slim electric fans from the junk yard and relocate that coolant overflow bottle. wont be long now!
