Double DeLorean Day
I'm using a bit of poetic license in the title since it was not the same day although within a couple days and in the same neighborhood. So I figure somebody local might be collecting these?

Where did you see the red one? I used to see one decently frequently on 422...

I was thinking the same thing. Wonder how good it looks in red. A+ for being different.

I saw one parked outside of the Goodyear in Phoenixville on Sat. morning...Michael J. was nowhere in sight.

I saw both of these within a couple blocks of the same spot. The red one on Gypsy Lane which is what N. Wynnewood Rd turns into on the north side of Montgomery Ave. and the silver one on Sabine Ave. in Narberth. I live near there and I've seen the red one a few times in the past so it's probably local.
I know they came in unpainted stainless steel from the factory but this red one is not the first I've seen painted. I realize these things are pityfully underpowered and quirky, but they still look cool and seem like they should be "collectible". (my edit: I switched the red and silver in my first paragraph above to correct my stupid self) Last edited by Nick 95 6sp; 06-05-2011 at 09:15 PM. |

spotted the red one outside a shop on bus RT1 buy old Lincoln highway a few months back. Car looked good in red. Was it a dark red metallic you saw? Curious if it was the same one.

I love DeLorean's and they did from the factory come in red. But they only made a few. I'm not saying this dude didn't paint his. But there are a few out there from the factory that are red.

the only other deloreans from factory that werent stainless were 2 gold ones that they did as a promotion for american express gold card, not really sure where you heard they were painted from factory, but that source is incorrect

I've seen it. They made a few in red to show that you could get them in color. I"ll have to find it. ok so this is what i found. I guess they made a few in red but nothing came of it. So like I said I say it some where.
below is something along the lines that i read. Well, actually it is correct that no DMC-12 came from the factory painted. However, while I worked for DeLorean at the Bridgewater NJ Tech/Prep Center as a Regional Rep, we heard about (but never saw) several cars being sent to duPont in Wilmington to see if they could come up with a technique to paint the stainless. Some owners wanted something different, but the problem seemed to be that the stainless used on the DeLorean was so good that it was very hard to acid etch so the paint would adhere. I understand several cars were painted red but it never progressed from there. There was also talk of trying anodizing, but I believe they thought it would scratch too easily. So, yes these cars could be "factory" red painted DeLoreans. Last edited by 2wdlaser; 06-08-2011 at 05:07 PM. |

I saw the silver (unpainted) one again. He had the engine cover open checking stuff, I went around the block thinking maybe stop and talk, but when I came around he was already pulling out.
You notice it was raining and as I drove past I clearly noticed it not rusting

Hey Nick, that's my Delorean you spotted!!! I live in Narberth, my husband took the car to get gas today. Cannot tell you how flattered I am to see you posting about the car here!!! I randomly Googled 'Narberth Delorean' and found this post. Did you happen to catch me in the Memorial Day parade?

As you might guess I also live in the Narb...well, technically I live one block out of the borough as the library often reminds me. I've lived here since '78 and this was one of the only Memorial Day parades I've missed so sorry, missed you guys and your cool car. If you see me driving my black Supra around, wave or make some noise...I'll do likewise.

I have heard that the owner of the red Delorean is an area dentist, that's about all I know. I often see it parked near the apartment complex across the street from the Genuardi's in Wynnewood. Wish I knew more, maybe one day I'll find out.
I have to say, I've wanted a Delorean for at least a decade now, I did not know so many other people shared my interest. The reaction I get when I'm driving around is astounding! You could buy a Mercedes, BMW or Porsche and pay much more money and nobody around here would notice. Drive somewhere in a Delorean, and everybody stops to stare. It's terrific. You get a lotta bang for your buck with this car, that's for sure! |

Ep. Is your Delorean an original, or one of the new builds they are making now?
