New addition!

My best Christmas present this year was, by far, given to me by my boyfriend. After wanting one for well over a year, soon followed by him wanting one .. Brandon gave me a Boxer puppy! Though he didn't actually give me the dog. He gave me a dog tag wrapped up in a little box, so that we could choose the dog together. And duh, I've only been wanting one for a year .. so I was more than a little prepared to find a puppy, since I'd been browsing around online for months. I just wasn't expecting it so soon!

I had really wanted to adopt, but after talking with Brandon and my family (my sister especially, who's a vet tech and a big animal person) before I even knew I was getting the puppy for Christmas .. we decided it would be best to buy from a breeder. The unfortunate truth is that most puppies labeled as 'Boxer Mixes' in shelters are very often Pitbull Mixes, and seeing as I live in a neighborhood with a LOT of kids -- I just didn't want to take the chance of anything going wrong with the dog, or people being afraid of the dog, and so forth.

Anyway, I found a promising puppy at a nearby breeder. She was born on October 29 and we went to check her out yesterday, December 28. After playing with her and talking with the breeders for awhile, we decided to take her home! She's a flashy reverse brindle, with a docked tail and natural ears (that will STAY natural). We've decided to name her Lexi.

She's already proving to be a fantastic dog. She's typical for the Boxer breed in that she's a bundle of energy and hilariously playful -- but she's also extremely responsive and learns amazingly fast.

We have a vet appointment already scheduled for a checkup, where she will also be microchipped and where we can find out the best local place to enroll her in obedience classes.

my grandma has a boxer, and she's an amazing dog! i hope yours is just as amazing! they are such great listeners, it was really easy to train her.

PERFECTION!!!

For the past 6 years, I've had my eye on the shelter every day looking for a boxer puppy. In that 6 years, only ONE was available for longer than a day, and I hesitated and missed out by about an hour. And smart move not docking the ears.

I've had my brindle boxer, Clutch, for 5 years now. Best dog ever (other than when he kicks me out of my bed ). Good luck with your new pup! And don't let the clumsiness fool you, they may or may not grow out of it!

Awesome, I get either a spambot or moron posting in my thread, LOLz.

Julz -- she's not of champion lines or anything. The breeders I got her from concentrate more on personality and temperament, so she's actually a little on the small side for a Boxer. Which, honestly, I don't think I'll mind too much! She's definitely true to her breed in mentality, though -- she's dozing in my lap as I type, I'm gonna wind up with a 60 pound lap dog.

Personally, I just can't believe how smart she is, even this young. She's already gotten down 'sit' and responds to her name. She had two accidents in the house the first day we had her (which were our fault) .. and hasn't had one since. Granted, one of us takes her out at least once an hour during the day -- but still.

Her crate training is going well, too. She howled on and off all night the first night .. but by yesterday afternoon, she was plopping herself down in her crate to nap. And last night, she cried for about 15 minutes after being shut in her crate before quieting down .. then cried for about 5 minutes again after I took her out around 3am .. then started crying around 6:30am, when Brandon took her out and he said he'd hardly put her down in the grass before she copped a squat.

very cute!! puppies are a handful! train her well and don't spoil her just because she is cute and she will reward you with being the best behaved dog.
