My dad may add a 03 Evo to the stable

Well after buying the 01 eclipse and selling it to me he has been on a search for a new car. I kinda pointed him twards the Evo , to my suprise he likes the car alot. This tues he is going to maywood mitsu to look and test drive the blue one w/ c/f hood for 23k. Is there any thing i should be aware of of the general models? Also it the 0% financing available on certified used cars?

cf hood? to me that says the previous owner may have either modified the car or just driven the crap outta it. its not definite, but i know if i was used car shopping i would be looking for something booooooone stock.
but then again this car could be in good shape and thats a pretty attractive asking price. how many miles? any other mods on it that you know of?
i'd say if you can get an evo owner to go with you and look over the engine, etc. to see if he can pick out any other mods or anything else you might want to be aware of.

There is no 0% financing for preowned cars. They only did that deal for the left over 2005s. I'd look for vacuum lines that aren't factory(although it is kinda hard to tell). That usually means there was some kind of boost controller or blow-off valve installed and if they were installed then i can guarantee there was plenty of other parts on the car. The carbon fiber hood would definitely scare me. Thats an expensive piece. If they had the money for that they definitely had money for cheap bolt-ons. I do have to say for the most part the Evo guys take pretty good care of their cars. Good luck!!!!!!

I just went on Maywood's site and the car also appears to be lowered. Might want to watch out for that. More aggressive suspension means more aggressive driving.

Dont buy a car that is modified. It may only have CF hood but I bet it had alot of HP mods just prior to being traded in.

Personally I wouldn't care how much it was modded. Thats what a leak down and compression test is for.
Other then that, make sure all the fluids are clean and don't smell burt, look it over good and check it with carfax if possible.

He does not have his eyes set on that exact on but it is one of the cheaper ones i have found for him. My area mitsu dealers, according to there sites, have this 03 and another that i tried to go look at today, but it was no were to be seen. This was at 46 mitsu. Most of the other ones are 05's that they are trying to clear out.

i would buy a new EVO over a used one anyday...

only way i would buy a used EVO is if i knew the owner, or the previous owner was a doctor or buisness man who drove it for their daily driver.

i own a WRX, and i would never buy a used one... but thats cause of the tranny. the same rules might not apply to other cars... if there are no weak expensive parts on the Evo then maybe its not much of a concern to buy used and/or modded.
if the car checks out ok then i say go for it, i was just trying to think through some other options.

Well from what have seen on evolutionm.net Evos are not that prone to expensive damage exept for the clutch going. (that could be from inexperienced drivers) *well and the engines blowing from bad tunes*

I don't know much about evos that is why i asked. See what happens on tues and go from there. I also have a pending carfax going on it so hopfully that goes well.

At 40K the clutch may be/is on it's way out.
It is definately lowered. Don't be concerned with mods really. EVO's hold up a little better than most cars to mods. The motor is a rock at all but the highest power mods. With a decent set of winter tires, they are pretty much unstoppable in the snow too.

Blue By You is, IMO, is the best color.

CF hood on a car that already has an Al hood means to me:

1. The owner was a moron. He blew $500 on a hood that he didn't need and didn't lose any weight in the process. Not good

2. If owner was not moron, he bought hood because original hood was damaged due to accident. Not good

3. See rule #1 with regards to modding. Since owner was a moron, mod list could be MBC, BOV, and 6K RPM clutch drops. The kind that just buys a CF hood BECAUSE it looks good is all about these things.

I would walk away from it if I were you. Knowing the owner on a modified car is one thing, but someone got rid of this car for a reason. There have been cases of bad clutches and some broken gears in the earlier years (due to abuse mostly).
