1st speeding ticket

My first one last night coming off betsy ross bridge. It was 3am no one on the road pitch dark and he was sitting right after the overpass. Cop got me with some rear view radar DP-55 or something at 80mph. I definitely was not going 80mph. There was a truck in front going real fast but he sees my car with exhaust and stops me instead. I was very polite the cop was nice and all but still gave me a ticket. He told me to go to court when I asked if I can do anything about it. Does anyone know how they deal with first offenders and if new jersey has a thing called "under acceptance" where you cant get a violation for a year and it will disappear. my friend also told me there are ridiculous surcharges if you want to drop your points and pay the fines. this is my first traffic violation been driving for 5 years clean record till now. Sarge any suggestions?

You can go to court and ask to plead to 39:97-2 but be warned you can only play that card once every 5 years so I would save it for a 4 pointer if I was you... Now what you can do is ask to plead to a lesser speed and then the fine will be lower but the point are the same.

i would rather definitely pay the fine then get points. this is my first offense. I'll ask the prosecuter about that 39:4-92. in jersey even if the cop doesnt show up you still are charged right?

I just got back from court. Really ticked but at same time content. Let me tell you if you have 4+ ticket get a lawyer. I was 30mph over which was 5pts and i didnt even know its actually a suspension. A lawyer came up to me when i walked in and said if i needed help. I said i was ok and continued into the court room to sign in. All the people with lawyers went first. I talked some dude dressed like a cop and he said he worked for the prosecutor. i felt like i was getting screwed but everyone without a lawyer talked to him. He took 1 point off and took off the suspension. thats still 4 pts i was like f that.he told me since it was 30+mph he could not give me the unsafe driving and told me to get a lawyer. i walked out and went up to the lawyer that grabbed me earlier. paid him some cash and he got me the unsafe with 0 points. i think he was in and out within 10 sec with the prosecutor. I dished out the $439. The judge did reduce the ticket to $123 but paid the $250 surcharge. definitely not driving like i used to anymore. this world is a hustle people ripping people off. in the end dont speed. its totally not worth it.
